Thanx Larry, I started prepping the riverbed for the first coat of plaster. Also as always I CAN'T STAND THAT WHITE STYROFOAM; so I painted it brown. Stay tuned.....

Alright now here's an idea that I've never seen on any model rr; every river/stream/cove or bay always has the water flowing toward the edge or facia of the model rr. I'M GOING TO DO THE OPPOSITE!!!! I'm going to mock up the scene I'm working on, only instead of blending the river from the backdrop into the 'real water'; I'm going to add a dam about 1/2" from the backdrop to allow for visual separation from the river "below" and establish the flow of the water towards the dam.
Comments welcome and needed for this one!

First time that I'm viewing this thread. Great work on the background mural and clouds. From my own experiences, I know how hard it can be to get it looking "real"

You're right. It's not usually done, to represent water flowing into the scene. It seems to work in your case, in part because you're such an artist, and the background scene stands up to inspection. Usually we want to direct the eye away from our background scene, generally pretty minimal.

I'm glad the mock-up came out looking feasible. Now all I've got to do is figure out whether or not to (A) build the entire dam and water feature as a unit that can hen be installed in the pre-prepared location, or build it 'on site'. I'm still letting those possibilities roll around in my head. Any and all thoughts on the matter are welcome.

P.S. Ron...did you notice the sections that I was able to save and reuse and reconfigure from the old Grizzly & Dilapidated RR? That's the one you were so kind about posting the photos for me; thanx again!

Well I gotta finally man up and empty out the storage unit that I paid 1 year in advance for back in January. It's down to only about a dozen plastic storage tubs, a small pink metal file cabinet, 4 pieces of furniture and my grandsons' (he's 22 now) Thomas the Tank Engine play table. Luckily, with a little bit of shifting some stuff around in the house, and using the extra attic storage space my friend Mark helped me create last weekend (more decking in the attic) I'll be able to make it all fit. Anyways, that's the plan for Tuesday thru Thursday next week; got company in town for the grandsons' 22nd birthday today thru Monday. Gage, my grandson, has asperger syndrome (a form of autism) and has lived with since he was 3 and will turn 22 on Monday, so his dad has flown down from NY to celebrate with us. After all that's done, I'm going to get to work on finally adding the siding to Scavenger and making the natural stone arch that I still have the mock-up of in place. Then I might just try to finish the dam and river project pictured earlier and below, also in it's mock-up phase.
All for now, comments and suggestions always welcome.....

I needed to catch up. The cleanup and black skirt look good. The pictures you took are from nice angles and are great shots!
The blending job you and Mark have been doing are excellent. The river looks good, and I thought it was working well without the dam.
But if you do do a dam, how about a beaver dam?

Kyle if you are thinking of adding a dam that is more three dimensional against the background, here's a few photos for you. This the dam on Ellicott Creek in Williamsville NY, Northeast of Buffalo on Route 5. It would allow a transition from picture to layout with greater detailing. I It was created for flood control downstream below the Onondaga escarpment that it flows over. ( crappy fishing by the way)
