OK... more 'strocks'; this time I concentrated on filling in some areas with smaller outcroppings that had a little less depth. Most were carved from 3/4" thick styrofoam, which made it very interesting as I was carving the pieces with a sharp serrated knife while holding them in the palm of my hand. I also moved over to the other side of the chasm and began adding some there. There's a couple of shots of the white 'strocks' before adding some paint. Also remember that the entire cliff face, 'strocks' especially, will get a coat of plaster to seal them, and to provide a fresh surface for final coloring.

The last 2 pictures are similar however the second one is a little closer in. I think when it's all done I'll try to post some older shots to show before and after.

Allright, the rock face is done. Next up is the plaster/sand/color mix to fill in around the edges of the pieces that have been added where needed. Then a coat of the same mix only much thinner will be applied to the surfaces of the 'strocks' to seal the styrofoam and get rid of and fill in around any pesky little 'styro balls' on any of the rock surfaces. After that, the final coat of color and washes and we're done and ready to move on to the next project...hope you like the progress so far...

Kyle great job on the rock faces!! They look very real and your eye for color is fantastic. Did you happen to take a "finger count" when you were done carving the foam? Just curious.

I sure do appreciate all the comments; here's something I whipped out this morning. I started about 9:15AMcst and finished at 12:30, then took some shots. As you can hopefully tell I added narrow gauge rails to one of the standard gauge sidings making it dual gauge. This gives me one extra On30 siding without giving up a std. gauge siding: or having that strange looking 'LIONEL' effect of just adding a third rail. I'll cut the flangeways for the std. gauge wheels once I start adding guard rails and fine tuning it..so far it works fine and my back says 'enough already'!!

I'm going to disconnect the 4x8 center section of the railroad, lower it by 3 1/2" and rotate it 180*. This will re route the main line through Dilapidated and Scavenger without even changing the track plan as it is currently laid. more to come...

Well fellas, after much consideration and deliberation, along with some friends persuasive oration, I've decided against changing the layout. I shall keep it the way it is and proceed with finishing up the canyon, Mt.Wilson and the turntable at Blackrock. Next there will be more trees and finishing the new bldgs. at Ft.Compton. Also there's still the tunnel portal, oil and gas transfer area,.... so I guess I've got plenty to do this year. (maybe changing the layout wasn't such a great idea after all!)
