    • Great addition to an already great model. Rob.

Makes me want to finish the rigging on the boat I was building. Thanks for sharing.

      • Rob,

Certainly am enjoying how this build is coming along. Interesting enough to perhaps encourage me to look for boat kits and delve into this arena at some point. Thanks for sharing your techniques and skills.

        • Thanks Frank......I think.

I'm not that familiar with Rube Goldberg. I'm more of a Wile E Coyote type of modeler I think.

Thanks Carl. I use the analogy of the duck test:- If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Thanks Horton, Yep boats are quite different to do. Lots of help here which is good.

          • Thanks for dropping by Rich, nice to hear from you again.

I have been studying your boat build for inspiration and ideas, so thanks for that. I hope you can get back to it and finish it off soon. Especially as I'll be doing the rigging next.

I know you've had major family health issues, and I hope things are better on that front.

            Cheers mate.

            • Some more detail work done up the front.

Made up an anchor winch and some other details.

The anchor itself is from the kit.

              • Also made the navigation lights on top of the wheel house. Used little clear plastic beads, painted with clear green & red paint.

Even managed to put them on the correct sides. Tip. PORT wine is red, and goes on the LEFT. Both words have 4 letters, so easy to remember.

                • Rob,

Nice weathering/rusting on those styrene (etc) parts.

                  • Thanks Horton. That sponge technique is the best thing I've found for doing rust.

Struggled for years to get a good effect using brushes, but happy now.

                    • What a great looking boat Rob, and you are a master at fabricating detail parts from with all the excellent ideas you come up with. Fantastic progress!

                          • Thanks Louis. No master here, but I try my best. And gets lots of great ideas from people such as yourself.

Frank & Phillip. Not casting off just yet.

Still have to do all that rigging now. Hopefully I can get some sort of sense out it. Just looks like a bunch of ropes going everywhere to me. What could go wrong?

And besides, only Frank and maybe 3 others will know if it's wrong, and I've already paid them "hush" money.

I'm really just going for a "look", rather than precision.

                            Regards Rob

                              • Oh Rob, you said the cursed word, "rope".

Just for grins. There's only one "rope" on a boat or ship. A rope is tied to a bucket so your can throw it overboard to get a bucket of water. Every other piece of cordage has a specific name.
