Here's one thing I've been working on. I built an engine house about 27 years ago, including service pits under the track. It has been on my layout now for several years but without the service pits, which were built separate from the wood engine house itself.
As part of my scenery-creation I decided to add the service pits, which required me to cut out a rectangle of homasote. Here's a before photo after I moved the engine house out of the way and started removing excess ballast on the two tracks:
I had built a unit that included service pits, foundation, and dirt floor. Here I have glued it in place with some scenery added to disguise the joint with the surrounding homasote:
A little more scenery and I can set the engine house back in place. I messed up one of the tracks, so it has been replaced and awaits more ballast.

Great stone foundation and pits, looks like something you might stumble across in the woods of New England. (I mean that it looks like real stonework!)Nice job blending it in!
