Mike, are you pleased with the Minuteman shingles? Seem a bit pricey, unless I'm completely out of the loop.

Good question.
I do like them. For one thing, they have a straight lower edge, rather than the irregular, rustic-looking edge of many commercially-available shingles. The straight edge is more historically accurate for the modeling I do.
With regard to cost, here are some comparisons:
These two products are very similar --
Minuteman 36 sq. inch coverage $12.95
B.E.S.T 18 sq. inch $ 5.95
For further comparison:
Bar Mills est. 36 sq inches $10.95 (irregular edges)
Campbell 108 sq. inches $13.80 (generally panned on RRL forums and currently unavailable)
I've used all these products over the years. These days I prefer the Minuteman and BEST shingles.
Here's another consideration: Minuteman also sells Scalecoat paint and so it's convenient for me if I plan ahead and order multiple supplies. They also set up at a train show I attend once a year. On the other hand, BEST sells some nice kits.
I don't recall what you use Carl. If you have more to add I would be interested.
Mike

Thank you. It seems I do a lot less fiddling with the roof opening to get the chimney straight and secure if I fit the roof around the chimney rather than the reverse.
Believe me, I've done it both ways plenty of times.

Minuteman have I not heard of before. On shingles have you tried Wild West Scale Model builders? I have used them and like them alot.

Thank you.
I've seen photos on the Wild West website but have not seen their shingles in person. They look a little rustic, but not too much so. I will give them a try. I want a little variety in my roofs and they would look nice on a barn. In fact, I have a barn that needs a new roof.

That's interesting . . .
It was quite a complex of buildings. I've considered doing some of the smaller ones as background structures.
I'm very interested in seeing the photos when you get time. No hurry.

Here ya go. Two pics from Yesterdays show in Syracuse. A selective compressed interpretation of Dunn & McCarthy shoe factory. Home of "Enna Jettics"
To be accurate, the background would have the State Prison. They used prisoners to make shoes, until the state passed a law against it.Home of the HOn3 North Coast Railroad, along the shores of Lake Ontario.

Dave, thank you for posting the photos. That's a good interpretation, especially the waterways amongst the buildings.
Bernd, you figure you have enough to work on? You always seem to find bargains at the train shows._________________________________________________

It's been about a month since my last update. I was out of town for several weeks, and before then I was completing a major stage in a 1:1 project of repainting a room.
Now that hobby time is available once again, I have started back up on the roofs. I almost finished one and started the second one.
Next I plan to shingle the second roof, add boards on the ridges, and complete the foundation. And I still need to install that window on the end. And handles on the doors would be good.
