  • Mike,

You have put together an impressive fleet of L.V. cars. What kind of loco's have the honor of dragging around those gems?

I may have missed an earlier post, but what about the other end of the train also?

      • Thank you Greg and Ted.

Greg, my main motive power is an Athearn Roundhouse consolidation, which as you can see still needs to be relettered.

At the other end is a scratchbuilt bobber:

        Thanks for your interest.

MEANWHILE . . . I have been working on the water tank in Alderson, PA. The model is based on a couple of photos. Many details are hard take see on those photos but I filled in where I could.

That pipe up to the roof is a mystery. Water tanks in cold climates often have an enclosed base as protection from freezing, yet here is a fully exposed water supply line. What gives? Maybe I’ve interpreted things wrong. I’ve modeled what I see and sort of like it.

        • Mike,

Thanks for the peak into your RR. I like your water-tower. It is unique. I especially like the entry door, built piece by piece?

I enjoy visting other layouts and seeing the creativity of the guy building his interpretation of real world. (that is WHEN WE COULD) [:-spin]

If that 2-8-0 runs as good as mine does, you have a good runner. MDC has improved their loco's greatly from the old brass wheeled driver days.

I took one like yours and tweaked it a bit. I moved the cab back about a foot and it gave it a new look.

          Regards,

          Greg R.

          • Greg, thank you.

Yes, the door is built up with stripwood.

Your locomotive does indeed look quite different. Did you also lower the boiler and cab?

            Mike

            • Mike the tank came out super. I hear those Athearn engines are easily relettered.

              • Bob, thank you.

Regarding the lettering, I’ve seen a couple of methods recommended but haven’t tried them. I’m hoping to avoid disturbing the paint underneath. Have you found a method that works?

                • Mike, the outside fill pipe for the water tank could have been set up to drain back to an underground dry well when the pump wasn't running. Still some risk of freeze-up after multiple cycles on a sub-zero day.

                    • Mike,

The loco boiler is sitting in it's natural position on the cylinder saddle. Just the cab was moved. Also a re-engineered drawbar.

                          • Thank you James, Philip, Greg, Rob and Bernd.

James, you might well be right. In any case it gives an ad hoc, backwoods appearance to the tank, which is appropriate.
