  • Mike,

Excellent job on the decal design. Learned Inkscape, better yet!

    • Thank you Frank and Jim!

Frank, I had them printed by Circus City Decals. He will do artwork or you can send your own.

Jim, I feel learning Inkscape was a step forward.

      • Mike just started reading your thread. I need to go back to finish but the cars are just great.

                • Thanks, Hakan. I assume the company is new; I came across an ad in one of the magazines, RMC or the Gazette.

                  • I've heard really good things about Circus City decals and have seen some of their white and black ones that look very good. But I also saw some "DeLuxe Gold" decals that were yellow with a halftone overprints of red and black dots which were visisble in close up photos.

Is there anyplace still making screen printed decals where the color is a solid color of ink rather than a halftone?

                    • Bill,

I don’t know. I’ve only had a need for white decals and have not investigated further.

Perhaps another reader on here can answer your question.

                      • I have decaled two more boxcars, resin scratchbuilds from several years ago. The Lehigh Valley rostered a series of 525 cars lettered “Lehigh Valley Despatch” both 28’ and 30’ in length. I built and lettered a 30’ car about a decade ago. I now have a couple of new 28’ cars. This is an older style car with exposed end sills. The LV owned about 2,000 of these cars in the 1880’s.

They’ve been lightly weathered to dull the lettering.

                        One more car to go.

                            • They look good Mike. One of the differences (generally speaking) between the west and east coast railroads is that the eastern road seemed to use more of the car side for lettering.
