[Breaking this into two posts again to try to get past the useless error message that pops up.]

Over the last couple weeks I've progressed on the CNW line. I finished the framework for the Riverton area. This is over the Powder River stock pens and siding. I didn't want a pole sticking up from the lower level benchwork, so I wound up with a 1/4" threaded rod supporting the outside corner of Riverton from the ceiling.

Here's a ceiling-height view of the Riverton framework from the opposite direction. Obviously a bit more framing needs to be done.

            2nd half, hopefully...

By the 19th of the month I had the CNW subroadbed installed through the remainder of the Wind River Canyon peninsula and on to the upper deck at the far wall.

And today I put the finishing touches on the Riverton benchwork and installed the top. All that's left is to install a couple of splice plates And I'll be ready to lay track through the area.

                  Always enjoy seeing your updates.
Were you able to make more progress during the holidays?

                    Thanks Tyson, Bob, Rick!

Yes, I was able to make substantial progress over the holidays. I'm within spitting distance of being able to run a CNW train all the way from Casper through Shobon to Riverton and on to Hudson. Hudson is on the second deck just off the left end of Casper. Track is in and caulk is drying. Should have temporary wiring installed tomorrow. Photos (and maybe a video) will follow.

Looks like nice solid construction. It's something to be proud of.

                        1 January 2022 (part 1)

I managed to get the connection from Casper to Hudson completed before the New Year. Here's a few shots of the first (non-test) train making the run, plus a video of the trip.

This line is the tail end of the Chicago & North Western Cowboy line. It ended in Lander, Wyoming. So will the model railroad someday. Here's our train - a four car freight pulled by a Ten-Wheeler - typical prototype train for this line back in the mid-1940's.

                          (Part 2)

Once we get past Shobon, the track ducks behind the scenery into the Owl Creek Mountains behind the cliffs of the Wind River Canyon. Since this trackage will always be on narrow subroadbed between four and six feet above the floor (with nothing in between but air) I've been installing fencing along both sides. If there's ever a derailment (and there will be some day, I'm sure) it will keep the equipment from splattering - and scattering - all over the floor.

Here's a higher perspective view of the blob end of the peninsula. You can see the train inside the fence.

I've used 1/8" acrylic for fencing hidden track so I can see through it to rerail cars when something goes wrong - even if the track is perfect, operator error will rear its head....

The track on this line is intentionally wavy and not looking so good - it was never maintained well on the prototype once the line was built.

The track between Riverton and Hudson is on a ledge above Casper, and has been in place for more than a year. The last few days I completed the connection from the Wind River Canyon peninsula to and through Riverton, connecting to the already laid track just past Riverton, above the west end of Casper yard.
