  • Reworking N turnouts

Has anyone ever tried taking an N scale turnout and replacing the ties with stuff more to scale for HO?

Here's the first Peco HOn30 turnout with the soldered ties.

The one wing rail fell out while I was doing this, but I was able to reinsert it. I might add another solder rail to the left of the frog so I can solder the guard rails across from the frog. Then I'll cut away most of the remaining plastic ties and tie supports, but carefully leaving most of the plastic underneath the frog intact. Then I can add the wood ties.

And to confirm: The Fast Track HOn3 ties match the Micro Engineering HOn30 tie length. I suspect ME used the same length ties for both HOn30 and HOn3.

Most wood ties glued into place. I think once this is painted, it'll look pretty good.
