  • Thanks, Mike, Scott and Carl!!

I started this project on 11-5, got the first wall bricked up by 11-26. But there was a week or so that I got little to nothing done. Christmas will be cutting it close.

          • Thanks, Scott, Rich and Carl!!

I have gotten a lot done, more that I've posted, just not much in the past 3 weeks. I've been fighting some kind of nasty winter bug that doesn't want to let go. I think I got it from Rich, I knew I shouldn't have opened his "nowhere" thread. I'll get back to posting again soon, I hope.

                  • Thanks, Guys!! Let's give this a shot.

And first glance the building looks to be fairly straight forward, until you walk around to the left side.Click image for larger version

Buttresses! Why? It's hard to see, some idiot planted trees in my way, but there is 5 buttresses. I'm reducing the width of the wall by one panel, that is one buttress and one set of windows. And moving the one buttress on the far left to the corner. I'm not sure what was going on there but it's against an adjoining building. There will still be 5 buttresses though because there is one on the left front corner.

Normally I cut out the wall, draw the windows and doors and then cut out the openings. However, on this there is 5 vertical bands of bricks, 1 along the top and 1 above and below each set of windows. So I'm waiting to cut out the openings and adjusting to where the bands fall.

This was Nov. 30. Fast-forwarding a week later to Dec. 6.

The gaps in the bricks are for where the buttresses will go. Waste not want not.

                      • Good to see you recovered Fred....

Those buttresses ARE odd, but they must be modeled in normal Terrell fashion. .

                        • Fred,
Glad you are feeling better! Nice masonry. Interested in how you build your buttresses.

                          • The buttresses are indeed unusual. I think if you built them on a free-lance building you would lose credibility. However, they are a good detail that adds interest to what could be just another brick wall.

                            • I like the buttresses. They may be a pain to model but they add a lot of character to the structure.

                              • Fred,

I am running a bit behind and I am sorry to see that you were not feeling so good.

Hope all is well now, we can't afford to lose one of the major builders on the forum.
