I actually weathered the ore bin with an airbrush. Started with saddle brown followed by black mixed thinned with old floquil thinner. 1st time using a brush.PhilipComment

Larry that particular one is from a retired modeler friend who sold it to me. Was labeled 'Keg Harbor'.
It was a flat kit from Banta. I reworked it as the floor from banta made it look stupidly thick. I call the nibbling/knawing which I didn't do a product of quarry abuse wear and tear. I kinda like it.
1st plan was to cut the plastic high side gondola down but they just didn't look right so the other 2 gons are 3x3's with 2x12 walls. Good enough but a bit thinner than banta. Banta was 3x3 and 3x12's............
Do you not like the nibbling /knawed look? Thanks for looking!

So I left off here several months ago after the November 2021 train show in Louisville. Work got in the way and several other factors. A blood clot near my testicles and the back surgery in May 22. I finally painted (air brushed) the gondola's to match the one made by Bill Banta at Banta models. He has a horde of products in many scales I think I painted them in June 2022. Slacking as I really haven't been 100% but doing well now! Anyhow after the train show I put the modules back in the spare room and to say the least....the trip to Louisville destroyed the track work at the edge of the modules where they join. More later on how not to transport modules. As you can see the ballast is removed from the troubled areas.

More photos of ballast removal. So after the train show I tried to re-glue the track by adding a mixture of elmers, thin water & a drop of 2 of dishwashing soap. Guess what? I ended up with a coat of white glue on top of my ballast. So the lesson learned is you can't reconstitute cured beautiful ballast. RUINED several areas I was messing with.
As you see I'm using copper foil ties to bridge across the gaps.
I am holding the rails back and using one copper foil rail to secure the ends. The problem before was certain areas I choose to end the rails at the edge of the module. Fine and dandy until it hooks on something and strips the track from the roadbed. Yep a dumb mistake!
Here are the other areas I'm dealing with. A work in progress.
