  • Thank you Mike. I know you're right about the headlight, but I like watching it turn off and on.

    • Here's my latest. I continue to touch up paint and insolated the electrical paths to avoid shorts.

      In this photo you can see two spots on the bottom of the truck side frames that cause a short when the truck derails;

      I covered these weak spots with epoxy and then repainted the bottom of the truck.

      Oh! Here's a shot of the new nose number plate;

      I've been touching up the paint and re-sealing the paint with gloss coat (future).

      I'm still debating whether or not to install a current keeper. The engine is running fine without one except over dead frogs and I only use dead frogs in the staging yard. But it also seem that keep a lives also keep shorts a live too with expensive consequences for decoders. So I don't know.

      Anyway the paint is drying and once I'm satisfied with the paint (maybe today) then it time for decals, flat finish, window glaze, crew and a wood load and she will be finished.

      Then on to #6

          • Thank you Mike. Oh Yes, she'll be named. I just can't decide on one. That opens a Pandora Box for me. We address them with "She" but give them masculine names. Corporate personal, town and county names, Mythology, as well as Historic personalities have provided engine names. Strong men quickly come to mind. Tyndale, Moore, Rutherford. I think The Cardinal Attributes would make good names. I need to seriously think about it.

                  • Nice looking engine Bob.

                    Another name could be "PATIENTS". You've had a lot of that during this build.

                    • ENDURANCE has her decals. Her tender is next.

                      These decals need their gloss coat which I will do when the tender is ready.

                      • Almost there. Decals done and sealed. Window glazing is next.

                        The standard 3/4 view;

                        and here one that includes the tender;

                        These decals were made for me back in 2004 by a Joel Brumm then in Rapid city, SD. I've been trying to find Joel to show him that I finally used the decals. Facebook found a Joel Brumm now of Medford OR who also lived in SD. Hopefully I can get in contact with him. Anyway after 16 years the decals needed a light coat of gloss coat to hold the film together during transfer. The gold stripes on the tender flange were particularly challenging. Anyway 5 just need glazing fuel a crew and a whistle.

                          I like the decals. And I like the name "Endurance".

                            Thank you Mike. I had to look it up, I started the 3D drawing for this engine almost 4 to the date. I guess it been an journey of endurance for the readers here too. The 2nd engine should go much quicker.

                            • a change of pace today. I have been gradually rebuilding a three point stub turnout that serves in the troat of my yard in Marshfeild. It was the first threeway I built and it never was right. Engines bounced over the frogs and there were consent derailments. So as a back-burner project I spent an hour hour here and there rebuilding the turnout. I also redid some of the benchwork to allow proper placement of the turnout servos under the layout. Today I was able to get the turnout mounted in place enough to test two of the routes. I am quit pleased with the results. The test cars are rolling smoothly over the frogs and stub points. Even the Mikey cars are liking it. (the Mikey cars are named after the little boy in the cereal commercial who doesn't like anything) After dinner I'll work on third route.
