Lou’s Roundhouse MDC Climax Project

    On to the next progression of cuts for lowering the Climax boiler for a better prototype appearance, and the fuel bunker plastic wood tent top to replace with real logs. The picture below shows the two (2) cuts that are needed to separate the boiler section from the cab, and then cutting in-between the second and third horizontal boards, on both sides to lower the boiler section, then I’ll need to re-glue the newly cut down boiler section back onto the body/cab section. Also, cutting off the top of the fuel bunker plastic wood tent, and discarding it so that real logs can be used in its place.

              This is an interesting and highly creative way to approach this project, Lou! I doubt that I would have thought about mounting one car body inside the other and then performing the necessary surgery to have it all work!

                A great subject to help get more of these little buggers off the shelf and running on layouts!

                (I cannot take credit for pic #4, only #3)

                I can't wait to see what you come up with. I have a few shells I've been wanting to convert and this will get me inspired to model while I wait for a new layout space. (a new house [:-jumprefect])

                      Thanks Dean, However, I posted "The next two Climax pictures, 3 & 4, are of Dean Kershner’s – Geared Steam, and a Climax by Jack’s modelling" meaning #3 was yours, and #4 was Jack's Modelling, another person.

                      I want to say to you though, how much I enjoy your modeling and ideas. I love scratch building and kit bashing, but never would of thought to use the two shells in that way. Also, thanks for allowing me to use your Name, Website and modeling how-to without resistance. [:-cowboy]

                          Like the drawing suggested cuts in the above post, the picture below shows the first set of cuts made to the fuel bunker top, and the boiler section front using a modeler’s knife and a razor saw. The next cuts will be to lower the boiler by removing two (2) wooden boards from each side from the bottom section of the boiler, then this boiler section needs to be re-glued back onto the shell.

                            The next steps taken will be to re-glue the boiler section back onto the body. A piece cut from .030 styrene to fit inside of the bunker top for a deck to place the real logs onto. And, a window frame section needs to be made from .030 styrene to raise the window after the boiler was cut and lowered, it also changed the window height.

                              I guess my previous comment was indeed a little mysterious. I meant that you had done a lot of slicing and trimming to allow the MDC shell to fit over the other shell, which because you did such a good job is going to be completely hidden.

                              Your project gets even more interesting with each step.
