  • Thursday Morning Lounge

Getting close to chalking up my first full week back to work. Seem to have the rhythm now, so it's been easier, even the 5:30 wake up.

Toddled over to the company cafeteria and came back with a B-L-T. One of my favorite breakfasts. Coffee is not my drink, so you all have to make do with what you can find.

Might get to 80 today in SE PA. Train night after work...run 'em on a friend's layout (WM, mid 50's era).

Good morning Larry and the rest of the RR-L Crew this fine sunny Thursday morning. Back to Oatmeal and tea for me.

It was a LONG day yesterday getting up at 4 am so Mary could shower using the special sanitizing soap provided by the hospital. Then on to the hospital at 5 AM. Prep then they started to operate at 7:30 which took 2 hours. One disk notched and the wing of a vertibre also notched both to relieve pressure on nerves. Recovery by 10 and out of the hospital by 10:30. We stopped and had lunch at Penera Bread and home by NOON. Mary is moving quite well with some pain.

Now besides Rusty Stumps work I get to do a lot of house work for the next 4 to 6 weeks. Oh JOY! [}]

Everyone have a fun and safe day in the Summer Train Yard.

Good morning, Larry and crew. I opened a new box of Rail Bender Blend K-kups for the coffee drinkers. Tidewater Virginia is staying in the 70's today. After some errands and some outdoor activities, I hope to see some bench time. Tonight is the monthly business meeting at the club, which is not may favorite event.

      Have a good day.

Good morning Crew, Larry thanks for opening the Lounge. I filled the coffee urn, Ashpit Blend and straightened out the K-cups next to the machine. I’ll have a diet Dr Pepper and contemplate the day for the next hour or so.

I have a final meeting with staff at my brothers company and then I am done again. I was going to do this by Skype but my brother will be there so, I guess I have to drive but I will be home tonight. This should be my last trip to Marshfield as we are moving all our medical to the UW system in Madison. On July 1, we start paying for a Medicare supplement as for the last 35+ years my wife’s insurance plan was paid by the school district. It lasted for 10 years after she retired which is this week. We have been very fortunate in that respect.

The ATV ride with the grandson was an adventure yesterday. The possible rain if u were in the wrong place arrived about 1/2 way thru the ride. It poured and we got drenched and very very muddy. He loved it. Have a great day!

Good morning Larry and the rest of the crew. It is cloudy and 59 degrees now in the Jersey Highlands.

It is good to hear that Mary is up and about already, Walt.

Busy day yesterday, cleaning out the barn and the garage. Plenty of progress made.

We have a second moving company coming in a few minutes for a quote. After that, it is back to packing/cleaning.

          Have a great day!

Walt, good news from Mary. Hope you survive "6 weeks of housekeeping". Bruce, good luck with the movers. Are you going to leave anything behind to stage your NJ house? (We did that, but the movers soaked us with a minimum charge to get those couple of items up to NH. If they didn't have sentimental value, it would have been cheaper to just give them away and buy new stuff.)

I might get around to installing the swing gate posts today, depends on my motivation :-) The dogs are at the groomers, which makes the house unnaturally quiet.

Sunny and cool in MI this morning. I have orders for scrambled eggs and toast so I have to get moving.

After mowing and trimming some trees yesterday I worked on the wiring of the new section on the layout,.

Everyone have a good day. All the best, Walt, to Mary. Amazing that there is the capability to have back surgery and go home in such a short time.

Good morning all! Internet was wacky earlier on this end. Thanks for opening this morning Larry. Good job with putting on the coffee Tom.

Walt's gonna look great wearing that apron for the next 6 weeks. Glad to hear Mary is feeling better and is able to get around. She'll be monitoring Walt to make sure he isn't duffing off. Walt will be praying for a faster recovery.

I expect to see Dave's OCD kick in on his layout build.

I think I'll just goof off today, maybe water the tomato plant.

                Have a Super day!

                  Mornin' All!

65 and "Fair" here in the northern mitten, but looking out the window and looking at the news here, I'd have to say it's somewhere between "Pretty good" and "Yay! "

Good to hear Walt's news, and like Karl, I'm amazed at what the medicos can do these days to get in, get done, get out and get you on the road. Very cool! Best wishes to Mary for a swift recovery!

Bruce, a recommendation, if I may-- check to see what the movers are going to do with your stuff while it awaits your arrival. Might be good to have one of you fly out to beat the truck, or have one of the Next Gen present when the truck arrives-- you don't want them stuffing things in storage, even for a few days, and they want that trailer back on the road Right Now. And don't plan on a pleasant ride with an overnight in a B&B, either.... Don't ask.... Somewhere out there are a few boxes of my stuff, with my name on them. Somewhere.... [:-irked]

Coffee's up and I have Stuff to Do....

Make it a great day, folks, and stay safe!

Good morning, all. The NH seacoast is warming up a bit today and the sun is visible through thin overcast. So today will include outdoor work, with modeling coming after dinner.

Good to hear things are going well for Walt & Bruce. Dave, if you still need the 5/16-18 hole tapped, I'll be returning from Seashore latish tomorrow afternoon and could stop by. Or come down my way on Saturday.

Finally, a question: Anyone know of an HO scale casting for a roof drain? In warmer climates, they connect downspouts to scuppers at the parapet. In New England domed cast iron grating over drainpipes running down in the heated interior. Usually 4" to 8" diameter on the bottom. Easy to make a solid one from the end of a sprue, but open would look nicer in closeups.

James, I bought a cheap tap and successfully tapped the two posts yesterday. I'm surprised how well that went, my first time tapping something that wasn't a model.

Looks like a whittling challenge/nightmare to be sure, especially in HO. I counted 60 vertical bars plus that 'doily' on top. Maybe 18 - 24" in diameter. 7 mm in HO, looks like a job for Walt.

                              Dave,

There is a good amount of the old furniture that we are giving to charity, so that will stay in the house until it sells.

Pete, we will beat the truck out by a few days.
