  • Changing a C-and-O 2-6-6-2 to flavor a Rio Grande 3300

Modeling on a budget to bring the flavor of Rio Grande's #3300 without counting every rivet.

Move a air pump to the fireman's side, remove forward sand dome and replace with steam generator and bell.

Decals help finish up to give a flavor of A Rio Grande articulate without breaking the bank. Thanx Thom...

    Hi all,

So Just wanted to post some minimal changes to help transform an C&O steamer to look more like a Rio Grande #3300.

One note: On the top boiler I held off on pushing down the steam dome all the way down unto I was sure I don't need to take off the boiler anymore.

Hope this gives some ideas on your next low cost transformation. Thanx Thom...

Nice job, the steam dome position does grab one’s attention. Good you ‘splained it. Your conversion does a suitable flavor change for sure.

          Thanks special K~,
Sometimes when a customer gets what they think is a good deal on a steamer (without really knowing what kind of work is involved) that said deal can go away quickly when they give it to a builder and asks... how much to???

The answer usually comes in a form of well, how about just quickly decal it and that will be good enough. While I don't really like doing that simple of a Blasphemy job. I try to leave open- "well I can add this and change that" to better give the overall cheaters FLAVOR and make both of us happy. Thanks for the compliment for sure tho.
          Thanx Thom...

Thank you Big Jim for the compliment also sir! It was a fun to see what I could do with a small budget and short on time, but nonetheless I hope to never have to go that again.
