  • Susquehannock Fall 2017 MER Convention Oct 12 - 15

The Railroad Line Forum gets a good turnout at MER Conventions. This year the event is located in Harrisburg at the Sheraton. They have some great tours of the East Broad Top / Shade Gap plus a unusual tour of the ACF Tank Car Plant plus Bowser. Check out the through web site at http://www.mer2017.org.

The famous Dutchman is giving three clinics.

    See you there,

    Eric

I have already registered. Looking forward to this fun annual event.

And Dutchman (Bruce) is giving four clinics according to the web site, but actually I hear he will be offering a fifth clinic, offered only to members of RRL at the convention. The clinic, "How to properly enjoy and savor the flavor of a Dutchman's Ale" will be given Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening at the bar at the hotel!

I hope to see a lot of forum members there.

I will indeed be there, clinics in hand. The MER always puts on a great convention, and the south Jersey guys keep things hopping at the bar in the evening.

        RRL Forum,

Now is the time to sign up for the convention. A fair number of our crew will be there. Check out the clinics on the web site -- many you will enjoy. The Sheraton is an excellent meeting facility -- I have stayed there at least 100 times.

Do the registrar a favor and sign up now. The MER offers on-line registration with payment by credit card.

        See you there!

          Mark,

A number of RR Line Forum members have registered so we will have a good turnout. For those willing to stay up, the RRL will have a table or two in the bar. You may hear us before you see us.

Ah yes, the annual 'daily post activities bar gathering'! [:-drunk] For me, one of the highlights of the convention. Catching up with old friends and meeting new ones, especially those from here on RRL!

I've noticed that Neil Besougloff is listed as a big part in this. Will he still be in attendance?

ACF Tank Plant/Bowser Manufacturing Tour Update

This bus tour of the ACF tank car plant in Milton, PA is filling rapidly. Also included in this all day tour on arrival day is a real nice lunch at the Northumberland Station and a visit to the Bowser Manufacturing facility in Montoursville, Pa which will feature a visit to the English Hobby shop on the premises. The ACF on-line plant provides an excellent prototype industry for your layout and has never been visited by modelers. You still have a chance to go on this outstanding tour. Don’t forget your hard hat (let us know if you need a hard hat, as we do have a limited number available) and safety glasses with side screens, as they are required by ACF for access to the plant. For details consult our web site www.mer2017.org.
In a time like ours seemings and portents signify. Ours is a generation when dogs howl and the skin crawls on the skull with its beast's foreboding.

The management committee is aware of the change at Kalmbach and they are revising the banquet program. Check their web site for an update soon.

The convention has some great tours -- Thursday going to the ACF tank car plant and then onto to Bowser. Lunch will be at the Front St train station.

Friday, a tour bus will head to the East Broad Top and expert Lee Rainey will be the host. He knows the place inside and out. Later on you will visit the Shade Gap trolley museum.

Check out the web site for more details.

According to the web site, early registration ends today, so if your planning on going but haven't registered yet, do it now and save yourself a few dollars.

Yup, it's only a few days away. Time for roll call!

I will be there all weekend. I will be participating in an op session Thursday night and hope to find some of you at the bar when I get back to the hotel.

Happy birthday Dutchman! Will miss your clinic due to the board meeting, but will look for you at the bar.
