Here is a pix of No. 62, Alco PA, Super Chief Sitting in the ATSF Yard in Kansas
City, Mo. 1965. These locomotives were maintained in a high level of repair.
62 was built in 1948. 18 years in service, still looking very good with minimal
road usage weathering, wear and tare from the elements.
No.62 was assigned the Chicago, to Barstow, and then on to LA. And return after service. In 1965 Santa Fe was contracted by the USPS, to transport as much mail and parcels as possible. The consist became 8 or more RPO cars; baggage cars and 1 coach car even though passengers were now scarce. By law it was mandated at least one coach had to be available on all runs.
Coincidentally, my Mother and kid brother went to California on the chief in 1964. It was a fabulous trip and she loved every mile of it both ways', The porters, wait staff and all train personnel were the most professional and pleasant', one could ask for.
And here is my version of subtle light weathering on NO.62.

No.58 another Beautiful Lady'..
