The system described is similar to what I do, only using acrylic paints and water as the thinner. The amount of weathering he does is about how much I do. My guess is some modelers will think the weathering he has done is excessive. However, what I now see and what I saw back in the early diesel years was that freight cars got and get pretty grimy.

What I like is that the 3 videos allows one to select the appropriate weathering technique for the object which we may be working on or the era of the model.

Military Modeler Weathers a Styrene Boxcar
As we know, the military modeling guys are way ahead of us in weathering techniques.
While doing some research on the weathering on some of the military modeling sites, I came across this tutorial on weathering a box car done by a military modeler. The video is a few years old, but the video shows how the some of the more advanced weathering techniques used in military modeling are applied to railroad boxcar.
