Bob, welcome back, looking forward to seeing your progress.

I like the revised plan, still lots of operating potential.

As for the lack of progress, I can relate as I have been on the road for 4 of the past 5 years, progress on my layout has been at a standstill over that time.

Well, I like many others have had to deal with real life. I have sketched a reduced and simplified one level layout that keeps my main operating interests. Guess what? No main line modeled at all.

The plan is to keep the West and East parts of the UL (the mill complex) and put a stub version of the Hayden Jct Yard on the East wall. Everything at 48" height. I will keep industrial switching and yard operations at the junction and a sawed off version of Rob Chant's design.

    Keep well, everyone.

One of my favorite areas of AZ, can’t wait to see track and scenery!

I'm a little embarrassed about the delay, but I dusted off the plans this week. I never liked the closeness of Winkelman to Hayden Jct so I found a solution when I realized I could combine the switchback with the town.

I also dropped the rock quarry and renamed the whistle stop "Hayden", a passenger stop between Hayden Jct and Winkelman.

The result is that I eliminated 2 elements without significant impact to traffic, but I lost my classic small town station. Winkelman was actually an historic railhead so the new look is only inaccurate for the year that I am portraying.

I was going to wait before posting until I had some track laid, but that is a ways down the road yet. I won't bother explaining what has happened over the last three years except to say that this hobby is now a high priority.

I am excited because UPS delivered the shelving chanels for the upper deck today. In getting ready for the 1:1 layout of the track plan, I found and corrected several errors as well as relooked at the train elevator. I simplified the elevator design and am much happier with it now.

First step is installing 38 slotted channels and locating studs for the elevator slides. That is going to take a while because I have 3 kinds of wall construction to deal with. I don't want to draw the 1:1 plan on the floor so I will build the lower deck benchwork next.

Some major changes at Hayden Junction.

The tail of the wye will be on a hinged lift up section to get it out of the aisle when the layout is not in use.

Thanks to Rob Chant for figuring out how to add the Burns, AZ, wye to the layout. The Burns station and wye was 1/2 mile west of Hayden Jct. It was the only turning option on the East end of the Phoenix Division.
