Hi Everybody. Construction of the lower deck will start after the holidays. Bob.

This is the lower deck track plan. The plan is a sketch, not to scale. Periodically I will update it to conform to what actually gets built. I am sorry it is so blurry, but I had to hit the resize hard to get it to upload.

I will be building the Ray Jct to Hayden Jct elements first.

    Happy Holidays. Bob.

PS: Updated the track plan, adding the upper deck. Edit: 8/18/16--Updated lower deck track plan.

Thanks Al. I sketched it in MS paint. I used a prior scale plan by Rob Chant as a guide and copied the layout elements that I could, but I gave up trying to get this one to be more than a concept sketch.

The design thread is in the Layout Design/Operations forum. Rob's draft plan is on page 6 of the thread. I forget which CAD program he uses. Bob.

On the right hand side, a little below center, it says "Elevator to upper deck".

Good question! The honest answer is I don't know exactly how I am going to build an elevator. One of the reasons for this thread is so when I get to that point, I can get some help. One of the upper level complications I am dealing with is different types of wall construction (masonry and stud) so I am going to have to improvise a lot.

Below is my plan. The complication not shown is that I have a shelf in front of the elevator on both levels. The elevator "shaft" will be a nominal 5 inches x 5 1/2 feet. I will build the elevator before the upper level shelf, because I suspect it will be easier to fit the shelf to the top of the elevator, rather than the other way around.

                    Happy New Year. Bob.

                      OK....a "floating elevator".....that should work....

Hard to believe 7 months have passed! I have been having fun though.

While I haven't moved any mountains, I have completed planning through the scenery including the backdrops. I even selected the fonts for decal art. I made up shopping lists, inventoried my track on hand and placed orders for the rest of the track I need. Next step is the lumber yard for bench work and backdrop materials.

It will be a while before I lay any track because I am going to paint the back drops first. Bob.

Some major changes at Hayden Junction.

The tail of the wye will be on a hinged lift up section to get it out of the aisle when the layout is not in use.

Thanks to Rob Chant for figuring out how to add the Burns, AZ, wye to the layout. The Burns station and wye was 1/2 mile west of Hayden Jct. It was the only turning option on the East end of the Phoenix Division.
