Thanks Andy I will check that out.I don't want to mess up the shell because they may be useful to someone still in On30.

At each end there should be two screws tgat allow the running chassis to drop out of the frame. If you have a dcc fitted model you may have to unclip the PCB to feed through the hole

That bottom picture is exactly what I aiming for.Got to keep the side rods though.
This is not a hot project but something I would like to do by the end of the year.

Here it is just the bare bones.
You can also remove the slide rods.
The unit comes DCC but I have taken the decoder off to the save space. It will be easy to solder a decoder back onto the unit.

Thanks for the reply Lars,
That much I found out replacing the faulty decoder that for some reason works just fine in my friends GP40. What I want to know is if I can remove the sill too so all I have is the mechanism and those side rods.
I don't need any of the body ( I hope) but it might be useful to someone else.

The entire body of the GM lifts off in one piece. Remove the screws on the bottom holding in the coupler boxes. Slide the coupler boxes out of the engine. Pull the body straight up. Disconnect the wires for the lights and you should be good to go.

No longer in On30 but I have some questions
Hi guys,
It has reached the point that at my age I have to many scales to play with.So I have sold off the 1:32 scale stuff and the On30 stuff except for the two gas mechanicals which is the whole reason for this post.
Since these little beasties run on HO gauge track I would like to replace the bodies with HO scale industrial loco bodies.I would like to do this with out trashing the GM body but I'm not quite sure how much of this I can actually do and still have a working mechanism.
Has anybody here ever done this that can clue me in as to what to do/where to start?
Any help will be appreciated.
