  • 30 inch (or close..) on the Baltic Coast



    On the resort island of Rugen, off the northern coast of Germany, 30" - sort of - is alive and well. The Rugensche Bader Bahn connects several resorts along the coast of the island, with standard gauge connection in two places.

    The actual gauge is 750 mm (29 1/2"), and the well maintained road does more than entertain tourists. Trains run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on our visit (not peak season..) trains included 9 coaches and two baggage cars - to handle bicycles..

      I always liked these narrow gauge German tank locomotives. Here is a video of that railroad. This Youtube channel also has a lot of other high quality videos of several German narrow gauge railroads.
