  • Outstanding On30 modelling by Tom Beaton

One of the highlights of the 2015 Calgary Supertrain was a 36 inch circular On30 layout by Tom Beaton (along with his amazing logging modelling in a milk can and sonotube). More photos and info on my blog at http://cprailmmsub.blogspot.ca/2015/...ore-great.html

That's a nice little pizza, on of my favourites at the show. I had a bit of a talk with Tom and he told me the layout is actually duel gauge On3 & On30, which I thought was pretty cool.

Tom's work is simply outstanding - have viewed it many times since I first met him back in the late '70's. His dioramas in 10 gallon pails are way cool.

Back in the aforementioned '70's, Tom had built a circular HO scale (standard gauge) layout, and mounted it on a bicycle rim, which in turn was ever-so-slightly tilted in it's mount so that when he turned on the train, it stayed in place, but the layout revolved under it. Quite an eye catcher!

In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame,
