Glenn, The more you run it it will quiet down, I have two done with sound for my Hoboken Shore RR, Now I used the GE Cummins sound from Soundtraxx 827014 and a mini oval speaker. Its not the correct sound but hay the RR sent them out and had new motors put in them. I willtry to some pic's posted of the install.
Good looking unit Glen! I do love that paint scheme.
By the way, since he suggested the sound, let's put SteamNut on the spot here! Glen, it's an ongoing joke around here. "Can Bruce put sound in that?" And he usually does! He managed to squeeze sound in both of his 44 tonners! And they sound great! So if your up to the challenge, we should have Bruce detail how he did it so others can give it a try. Bruce, your up!
Neoprean tubing (model airplane fuel line). The smallest you can get. Probably your local hardware store might carry that size tubing. Only thing I found is the hole is sometimes not on center. When the motor runs at it's highest RPM you get some vibration.
Here's my scratchbuilt eddy current drive that I used 1/8"OD fuel line. You put a ball bearing in the tube so it bends easier for truck swivel.
Hope this helps. Questions, just ask.

Would a length of tubing around the O.D. of that broken part fix it?

Art,
Not quite understanding what you are asking about here. Are you talking about the couplings on the 44 tonner? If so that's an interesting solution. Although there might not be enough room to do that.
