  • New Member Printing Question

I would like to print to a PDF six volumes of a posting subject the On30 forum.. The first five are 100 pages long and the fifth is 80 pages long.

I clicked Printer Friendly and it seems to pickup about 5 or 6 pages in that particular volume.

I choose PDF as to a printer would be 100s of pages. The PDF I can read at my leisure on the PC or my IPad.

Does anyone know how do to this?

    Thanks

Hello Jay, If you save the pages you want to print to a file in your PC, and then print them out in PDF, or HTML, it is a lot easier and less paper....

If you're on a Mac, this is easy. Safari has an "Export to PDF" function, and Mac OS X has a "Save to PDF" option on its print dialog box (lower left corner.)

On WIndows, the best thing is to look for a free "print to PDF" printer driver. Then you'd select "PDF" as the printer, and use the Menu print function like you would to a real printer. (Or you could pay a lot of money to Adobe for its Acrobat program, which does the same thing. But I'm no fan of Adobe these days.)

Can anyone recommend a specific Windows 'print to PDF' driver program?

Cute PDF printer. Free and I use it to create all of my PDFs from Word documents.

Do a Google search to find a download site.

Of course we all know now that you are into Troels' Coast Line build; a very interesting and informative layout.

But I don't know if you can print more than the five or six pages using that "printer friendly" tab. I just tried it and got the same results. Maybe 100 pages is more than the server can handle.

There several free PDF print programs. Some work better than others. They all virtually get the job done....Just different ways of doing it...

            Hi Guys

I have the full blown Adobe Acrobat so that is not the problem.

The problem is if you are on page 1 of a particular volume and click Printer Friendly the new window that opens up usually has 5 or 6 of the 100 pages in the volume. It sort of seem it start converting pages to a single printable page but stops whenever it wants. Maybe up to a certain MB limit.

I was hoping the Printer Friendly box would display all 100 pages in printable format.

            Thanks

I know what you are talking about. That is a problem with the forum programming. I think the reason is, because all the info is in the thread, and for some reason it does not compile in the print program. I have tried to print out different files and it did not work. It's best to print from the thread. There are several bugs in the RRLF. Most likely because it is a gigantic web site...

I just tried the export to PDF function in Safari on the first page of Troels Kirk's Coast Line RR vol #1 and it looks to be converting each page in a thread to a single PDF with the 8 or 9 pages it needs to cover all the posts. It would be great to be able to save an entire thread.

So it appears to be working for you. I'm not familiar with Safari? It sounds like the ticket you needed...

I wouldn't say it works, but I can save each page as a PDF. It won't follow links while creating the PDF though, so each of the nearly 600 pages that Troels thread runs would need to be saved individually. That is a lot of files to download/print/archive.

What print screen feature. Just for the heck of it, High light one of the pages. Hit print screen, then open

your pictures file. Then hit print screen again. The file should be in your picture file.....If this works, it's a lot faster

then the other way....DAVE, dmerry, and Stoker,, and Etrax might be able to help with this. They are very good computer men....

If the print screen don't work, Reach out to them here on the forum.....
