  • Nicely done, Mike. You are really getting a lot of cars done!

    • Brave move, but it paid off very nicely.

        Thanks Bill!
As far as my home road goes, my approach has been to build multiples as a matter of realism. I removed all cars over 30’ in length from my layout go get an earlier look, and also because I have too many cars. As a result I need to build my boxcar fleet a little.

Thank you, Chuck! Building cars is a lot faster when all that needs to be done is replacing a few details.

Yes it did. Thank you, Bob. It was with a little trepidation that I started removing the doors and end sills, but they popped off pretty easily. Fortunately I’m parsimonious with the solvent when working with styrene.

            • OK, I call "No Fair!!" [:-cry] This is an in, done and out process. Any simple upgrade like that that I start always takes fifteen weeks, six trips to the LHS or hardware store, two weeks of waiting for a widget that did the "ping-tink" routine and is now "somewhere out there," and three bandages. You must live Right!

              Very nicely done, Mike!

                Thank you, Pete.
I know how you feel. Actually, halfway through I had to order parts from Tichy, but his turnaround is so fast that they arrived by the time I was ready for them.

Also, I surprise myself sometimes; don’t assume I’m usually so efficient.

                        • I started building a company store for my town of Alderson, PA. My model will be based on the frame structure shown here beyond the water tank and freight house:

What does it look like on the sides facing away from us? I don’t know, so I have carte blanche. I’ve long had my eye on an article from 1977 by Jerry Strangarity on building a Pennsylvania company store:

Here’s a company store in Ricketts, PA, on the same branch of the LV that runs through Alderson:

My model is a combination of Strangarity’s plans, the store in Ricketts, and parts I have on hand. Openings have been cut out for the front and rear walls.

I’ll do some bracing and painting and then on to the sides.

                          Mike

                            • Nice! You've captured the look with the parts from the parts-box. I think I've been to Ricketts Glen State Park, but I don't remember if any of the lumber era buildings are still there. (It was more than 40 years ago...)
