    Dave,

Are you using two magnets or one and a piece of steel? I would use two magnets plus a small strip of metal, the thinner the better, to hold the roof down. Use some "feeler" stock metal that's about .002" or .003" thick sandwiched between two pieces of wood so you don't see it.

If you can't picture this I'll see if I can get a picture of a mock up by tonight.

      • That's an impressive looking roof structure, Michael.

        • Bernd and Geoge, thank you.

Dave, the walls are held in place by friction along each end and top edges. When I pick it up the walls slide out so there's not a lot of friction.

Long term I'm not sure how I will hold them in place. They warped a little, mainly along the upper edge on one. My intention has been to glue them in place once the machinery is installed. They help stiffen the beams holdng the line shaft.

          • Hi Mike, just been going back over a few pages I hadn't looked at. Your machine shop is coming up great.

That roof framing looks brilliant, so much detail.

            Mighty fine work.

            • Mike, I must have missed this thread somehow so I am glad I saw it and jumped in. I love machine shops, and building them even more. Your doing fantastic job here. I'll be taking notes as I really like your approach. I am king it the model in HO? I haven't had a chance to read it all yet.

              • Rob, thank you. I found a diagram of the framing in an engine house roof and I've been following that plan for a while.

Tony, yes, it's HO scale. I've gotten into learning about the machines and wish now I'd paid more attention what was going on around me during those summer jobs at the machine shop. Thank you for looking in.

Ted, Thank you. Here's a little more progress.

I am about halfway through adding the next set of rafters.

I am using a little styrene jig to align and space the rafters.

                        • My goal is to finish the exterior of the machine shop by New Years to make space for a new project. However, the interior with machines, belts, benches, and shelves are not forgotten; I will work on them as the mood strikes and my faculties are sharp enough to meet the challenge of gluing the machines with belts in place.

Here are several in-progress photos, first showing the rafters complete and work starting on the sheathing of scale 1 by 12" lumber:

and slate starting to go on:

I have also added the trim around the edge of the roof, and also on the building itself:

There is some paint touch-up to do as well as weathering around the bottoms of the walls. The opening in the end gives access to yet another part of the whole car shop complex. It's a small structure which I am going to assume holds the boiler.

                          Mike
