  • Cool little prototype loco

This vertical-boiler steam dummy sure is cute, and looks like it would be pretty easy to model:

Wow...cute and funky! Can you imagine, though, what a pain it must have been to maintain with all of that carriage around the mechanism? Yikes. The number is perfect...is it 'oh' or 'zero'? Either way, somehow perfect for such a peculiar critter.

Oh man, that's got Thunder Mesa written all over it! I'm not sure which is my favorite part; the arched doors and windows, the rounded ends, the cow catcher, or the canvas awning. Looks like a vertical boiler from what I can make out through the door. A NWSL spud would be perfect for this with a KA and decoder hidden in the roof maybe? Then you could keep the interior open for passengers and details. I'm brainstorming now. And yes, even the number is perfect.

OOooohhhhh, DAMN! ... just what I needed! Especially with what I just came up with, out of my mind, this afternoon (no, I'm not even going to give you a hint! ...) ...!

          Thanks a lot, Ray!

          No, really ... Thanks!

How did the power get from the steam chest to the wheels? Could this be built on an early Class A Climax or small Shay?

Ray, Bernd: Thanks for bringing this little gem to light!

Guessing that the man in the first photo is about 5.5ft, would give it a length of about 15ft over the body, about 9ft over truck centres, and about 3ft axlebase on each truck?

Being heretically 1/87 in the On30 forum, that works out to be about the same dimensions as a Kato 11-105 (9mm gauge "Shorty") chassis...

Well, the mine workers do need a way to get back up to Calico after a night on the town [:-devil]
I love rail busses and railtrucks but most are wrong for my era. Something like this would fit the bill nicely!

Thanks for finding this pic. Am I hallucinating or has the cowcatcher flipped to the other side? The first photo shows an arched door and one window at the "pilot end" before the wider door with the canvas awning. This photo shows two windows on the front end. What the heck? There isn't a cowcatcher on both ends so it must have been swapped. Either that or the car body is asymmetrical. Scratching my head here.
Edit: Wait, no, I'm wrong. Looking more closely at the first photo there does appear to be a cowcatcher on both ends. It's a push-me-pull-you. I'll go take my meds now.
