  • Found a old building while picking apples

    Gang,

We were out near Warrenton on Sunday, Winery Tour and apple picking...found these for you.

Not sure the function of the 3 different buildings, but note the amount of mortar chinking, so the logs weren't necessarily cut and fit.

WOW, THEY DON'T BUILD THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE!id="size4">These are incredible. The roofs are in very good condition considering their age. Can you imagine how warm in the winter, and cool in the summer in the random stone cottage..........What a great find. And talk about weathering. That gray is perfectly aged...THANKS, Les, SO MUCH FOR POSTING THESE EXCELLENT PHOTOS....

I wonder if those are not the original roofs? They look too new.

              Thanks for sharing Les -

True meaning of "rough sawn" or "rough Hewed" for that matter.

Great color reference on both buildings. I doubt the roofing

              is original too.....

                Guys,

Thanks glad you like, I suspect the roofs not the original too.

John, these were out at Hume Virginia...within 10+ miles of Warrenton I think. Heart of Apple and Wine country.

Look at that modern light over the door in your 5th photo.

Those roofs look to have been painted. The do make a metal roof paint for covering old metal. But my guess is those originally had a wood shingle roof and were replaced with metal.

Definitely going to try the log look. Jimmy of Monster Model has some laser cut log siding that is perfect for that look.

Are you going to use putty or plaster for the mortar??? I want to try this too....

Great find! Thanks for the excellent reference photos, Les. There aren't that many old log structures still standing.

Ted, no need for putty or plaster with Jimmy's kit. Just some correct color paint I think will do. Make sure you post some photos when you do yours. I won't get to mine as it's packed away for the move South.

                            All,

I am interested too in the monster product. I have their brick and rock wall materials. I am interested in building a "tent building" like you would find some a new town or early mining area. aka half log and tent.
