  • no cell phones That's sort of my opinion as well. I tolerate DCC only cause of the sounds, but it wouldn't take much for me to go back to a rotary rectifier! Russ

    • For all the cell phone bashers … kidding. Really, you can use an old IPod as well and no one can call you, or go to airplane mode. The advantage here is you can control two trains from one display screen, see the video. I have many old devices I can use and they are free versus the cost of a wireless Digital controller.

Also this is a show layout so I can hook in the younger crowd at a show. It goes like this - you want to run a train? Yes, that would be fun. Hey grab your phone and download this free app...

Pick #? That is your train... I did this with my son who has no interest in trains and he loved it. We did control 4 trains on this little layout in the past.

My next test will be can I load mining sounds on the device and send them to Bluetooth speakers hidden behind or under the layout.

      Louis,

It is a 15 minute set up and not complicated at all.

      • Larry, Good stuff I guess.

        Is this linked via LNWI?

        Pretent I'm that kid:

"It goes like this - you want to run a train? Yes, that would be fun. Hey grab your phone and download this free app..."

        Link?

Sound great for shows & always afraid someone will drop a throttle!

        • Very useful information, Larry. I’m going to store it away for future reference. I think it’s a great idea for public displays, including club and home open houses.

Philip it is linked via a Digitrax LNWI device that costs around $60.00 (street price).

            Info https://www.digitrax.com/products/wireless/lnwi/

There is a free way to do this at home using your existing wifi and laptop running JMRI software. I have done this as well but I elected to by the device so I did not have to bring a laptop and router to shows. The LNWI acts as both the above on it's own.

              • I was adding decoders to a number of critters today then switched to start to adding background sound.

Here is a shaky video from my phone. I need to do better with the video.

That was a neat feature. Added life to that scene very well.

                      • Hi Rick,

I have a few cd's from this site that came with one of the big bundles of Verne's stuff I got off ebay.

What you are hearing is the small time mine operation CD. http://fantasonics.com/store/cd.html

                          • Again, I have to say it adds interest to your scene. I'll have to look into some of there logging sounds effects. I've been using the ITT Products sound modules, but Fantasonics looks interesting.

Also, if you would please, I'd like to know the color green used on that Wilani Lmbr boxcar #506 and caboose #348 in the one video?

This is the green paint I used.

I just ran out so I need to acquire some more paint. I have 4 more cars under construction.
