  • Larry,

Its progress...what's nice about these small RR or Dioramas is the opportunity to take pictures and show off items.

I wish I could take credit for the loco. It is one of Verne Niner's creations.

This little layout will be packed with details.

When I visited Verne in the summer we discussed how he needed to build an ore bin and mine for the Estrella & Sonora Grande RR. Verne had a company name for the mines "Estrella Copper Co." Now that the Estrella & Sonora Grande RR is being abandoned, I will dedicate this mini layout to having the railroad finally make it to the Estrella Copper Co. mine.

First order of business is to reserve some equipment and start lettering some of my equipment to the ECC.

            First piece is on order.

Hard to believe this story is almost 2 years ago, see page 7. I purchased this little caboose off Verne and he wanted to keep it on the layout to take pictures for one last Annual photo shoot. One thing came to another and Verne decided to keep the caboose and refunded the money.

Unfortunately Verne passed and never finished his new idea for the caboose. I recently got very lucky and saw the caboose on ebay. There was no turning back at that point.

So now I'm happy to report the #2 is at the Estrella Copper Co. Mine awaiting the next run to Apache Wells.

The stack needs to be replaced, luckily I have a matching spare.

                • You got a cute little cabin there. What I like best is that it has two trucks. The 2-axle bobbers just don't look as good to me.

Frank that is not salt you see on his clothes. That is tailings from the copper mine. That stuff blows everywhere.

                  • How long is that caboose? I want to build some really short cars but still two trucks. I was thinking 14-16ft range.id="size2">

It is a 14' car, you can buy the kit, it is a chivers kit sold by Slimrails.

                        • For the comments on the figure. That is the figure Verne choose for the caboose so he will stay there as a memory.

                          • Some new motive power for the ECC. I found it on ebay, not one of Verne's but it fits in. It is a Discontinued Backwoods kit.

It must be payday as the tin turtle is getting ready for a run.

                            • I pulled the layout from storage today to let some motive power take a few laps.
