Need a little help with S scale track

Have a friend that has his American Flyer set from when he was a kid, he is 70 now so the set has seen better days.

The engines do work really well, but the track is really worn out.

Rite now he only puts this up a couple times a year and is looking for a track that is easier to put together and has a (roadbed) look to it.

I am very ignorant on S scale, so I am looking for any help on figuring out what would work best and give him the look and ease that he is looking for.

Sitting along side the orignal Central Pacific Rail Road.

Lionel owns AF today and they sell the AF fast track which has the built-in roadbed.
