Has to be the 2-8-0 for me. After spending a few years seeing the real thing (or very similar locos) being trashed around the sugar cane fields of Cuba, for Spectrum to produce one in model form was somehting I never thought I would see. So when they did, it was a foregone conclusion that a few would be purchased.

It's the outside frame forney, the added animation of the counter weights really adds to the charm and gives a western flavor.

I had to pick the Shay, I own 2 of them.....SADLY however this poll had to have been put up BEFORE the new Bachmann B&O EM-1, 2-8-8-4 was released, as that is my favorite of them all, but being faithfull to the list, it would be a close second, the Shay.
Now if I were to list a favorite diesel, this is an odd one as I like the Bachmann BQ23-7, that isn't even made any longer that I would LOVE to see it made in the Spectrum line! Not that it pulls well, or any of that, but once you get one and do the detail, and mount that shell to an Athearn UboatB frame, you got a pretty good running loco! With an more odd looking shell then any of the other older GE locomotives.

The 2-4-4-2 is a long-time favorite. I scratchbuilt one in HOn3 years ago, and I love the Bachman version. But my favorite (and my vote in the poll) has to be the inside-frame Forney simply bacause it turns into such a lovely 2-4-0 paired with one of the 4-4-0's tenders. The 2-4-0 itself wasn't in the poll, so the parent Forney gets my vote.

Mine would have to be the 2-6-0 for its simplicity, versatility, size and most of all, it's reliability. It's not too big, not too small, very recognizeable and is very simple in detail so you can do a lot with it detail wise and makes a fantastic base for kitbashing. You can really make nearly anything you want out of it.

I like the Mogul because it is plentiful, inexpensive, good-looking and easy to kit bash. So far, I've come up with a 4-4-0, 4-6-0, 2-8-2 and 2-6-6-2 along with the original 2-6-0 with an EDM tender and lots of other changes. All those locos use the Mogul superstructure, the 4-4-0 and 4-6-0 also use the Mogul mechanism.
