Well I have been busy doing other things for other people lately. SO progress has been slow ...I had moved all of my power over the top of the layout. That was a mistake. I need power under the benchwork. So I added wire down the pole and added 3 outlets under the benchwork...

Next I painted the the metal sleeve with Kiltz and also the outlet at the top of the support pole. After it dried i camouflaged the sleave with the backdrop colors..

I had a chance to read through your thread this morning - very inspiring work! I particularly like your structures and I can see the benefit of working at a larger scale. Keep up the wonderful work.

While I was painting the pole I decided to paint the plain wood on the inside of the valance. Helps me no be so distracted by the change of colors...

I have an area that has had very little attention and always seems to pick up a lot of clutter. Well I cleaned it all off and started work. Once cleaned off I painted the wall with Kiltz II..

Its only going to get worse before it gets better

The next thing I did was paint the backdrop a solid blue. There are 3 colors of blue I use to paint a backdrop are Windjammer, Dusk Blue and Sail Blue. All are Olympic paints from Lowes. I think I got the colors a while back from Bill Iwan. The windjammer is the darkest of the 3. I even painted the bottom of the shelves. Once that was dry I then went and painted the backdrop using all 3 colors. I put a new coat of Windjammer on the top and then blended the 3 down the backdrop The lightest color should stop just above your horizon.

Next I needed to figure out what I wanted to do with the corner? Just have the train go through a hole in the wall?? Can't do that. So I started making up a tunnel portal . I will make it as if its going into the side of a hill or a mountain. I started by framing up the portal with foam. I then had to bring the sides down at an angle. Here what I have done so far...

The Next thing I started was working on the hill. I forgot to take a picture of the faom supports but once they were up I added the cardboard strips and weaved them together. I then went back and added the Woodland Scenic plaster cloth. I had some laying around I needed to get rid of. Once that was dry I went back with a layer of paper towels and hydrocal to stiffen it up..

Next I took A 1x4x8' cedar board and cut it up to make The tunnel portal and retaining walls. The wood was precut and then stained with black and brown Fieblings dye and ETOH. Then it was all put together.

I painted this in about 30 minutes. There are 2 primary colors Paynes Grey and Medium Yellow. I will blend the hill or mountain later..

i still have to figure he lighting on this area..
