Well I thought the exhaust stacks looked a little plain. Here is an updated version. The main pipe is 1.5" which comes close to 2.5' in 1:20.3 scale.
Anyway here are the pic's they are temporarily held in place with zip ties...

Well I am still figuring out where everything will go. I found a really good buy on a few more Western Scale Models pieces. One is a Horizontal Tubular Brick Boiler. So as if I did not have enough things going on. I saw that it is a really big piece and will take up a goo bit of real estate.So I decide to put it together. After I had all the basic parts put together. I figured I would add a little animation to it. So the first thing i did was to make a clay dam around one of the furnace doors. I then poured RTV into the dam and let it setup.
I then was able to pour a door just like the ones on the face..

Next I carefully sanded off the lower right door.
I then traced the old door in its previous place.
Then I cut out the center leaving a lip all the way around. I then drilled out all of the other doors viewing holes.

I next sanded the hinges so that the door appears to be open. I will place a a fire flickering light inside. I will replace the solid viewing hole with a piece of clear plastic so the flickering will be visible through each door..

Thanks Guys,
Then I primed the whole thing with a self etching primer.I then painted the whole thing a burnt sienna. I then went back and mixed a little tan and then a little black to give me a variance in the colors.

Next I mixed hydrocal with a little dark grey Acrylic paint and made a mortar mix and painted it onto the brick. Then wiped the excess away with a dry paper towel.

I then Painted the whole front of the boiler with Roof Brown it give it the overall rusted look...I also put all the handles on and glued the door open.

Here is a pic in low light to see what the fire might look like.. The final version will be visible with all lights turned on. this was useing a very dim Lemax firepit..

love the work on the Ash Pit, Engine House & Boiler.
Ever since I saw Scott Anderson's boiler on Tom Millers Layout i have wanted to do mine with a fire flicker. Just could not figure out how to get the doors open for viewing. What or how did you sand off the door to open it up.
When you ordered the engine house kit from Anvil does it come with windows & doors & siding? do you think you will have them up scale some of their other kits to 1:20.3
