I love the look of these lush tropical forests, Dan. And you're quite good to render it. I'm looking forward to see the whole thing after the convention.

    Thanks all,

The "plank" is only 3' long (or 900mm), to fit within the contest guidelines. I keep looking at it and thinking it would actually make for a challenging layout to build, with such narrow modules, could end up squeezing a lot of length of run into a small storage space, but am trying to avoid considering more exhibition layouts in favour of bigger home layout plans.

    Cheers,

    Dan Pickard

Terrific forest and image...my eye is looking for any human life, perhaps a few blokes eating lunch sitting on the skeleton car...

Dan, you did very well with only 10" depth, at first glance, it looks much deeper than that.

Very good idea, Dan. I will see if my wife can give up the fire place mantel for some good RR work.

    Just an On30 shelf...

    Hi all,

So not just any shelf, but a mantelpiece. Well, ok then, its an competition project for the forth coming 11th Australian Narrow Gauge Convention. In the modelling competition this year, the special category was "The Mantelpiece Challenge" (read more abouit it here - http://cngg.org.au/The_Mantelpiece_C..._OZNGC2013.pdf ).

So I sat down with my plank of wood (or mantelpiece for a fancier word), and started to play with what I could achieve with O scale scenery in just 10" of depth. It was fun experimenting, and this has been useful for future plans as well, with getting a good feel for some of my past scenery efforts combined in a more accurate rendition of the prototype I will aim to capture in my home layout (once work begins on a new studio space for it, but thats another topic).

So here's a sneak peak of some photo fun on the iPhone and some filters and effects tweaking. I will probably post a few more pics of this after the Convention is over.

    Cheers,

    Dan Pickard
