  • New Bachmann 18' Cars

I just saw an e-maill announcing my account has been charged by a popular hobby tool and train distributor (M&M, anyone?) for backordered Bachmann 18' cars. Are they finally in the warehouse? Methinks so!

I am eagerly awaiting a few of these cars, here's hoping they will arrive in time for Christmas.

Yep, Mark, they are available for online ordering...no backorder messages.

I am particularly interested in the tank cars (for Frijolene service) and the low gondolas (for coke service).

          All,

I talked to John Weigel last night, they are arriving in the states, he doesn't have any, so I suspect the others are gathering $$$ to pay for their allotment. I will be getting some...not sure the mix but flats, tanks, boxes for sure. I am finding with the size of my RR that the 18s will be more desirable than the regular size cars we are all using.

                  All,

I can tell you that they are as nice as they look here. I have seen them out in Seattle this fall and at the Hudson meet. They look good, and behind a porter or a shay...they are special.

Trying not to drool Les...they do look nice, great brake detail and proportions. The only thing I might fool with on my cars is experiment with shorter wheelbase trucks, I might try the Chivers trucks and see how they work. The tank cars could use ladder and catwalk details on the tanks. I assume the coal loads can be removed from the gondolas, I need to make some coke loads for my set in coke plant service.

Good luck at the show Chris, you might be 'the first on the block' to get some!

                        Vern,

Well they track well, the colors are good too. Yeah they need some details, but then we do that with all the cars we have. I got prices from my green box provider, they are about 1/2 price of the listed bachmann price. I saw that the loads for the gons were removable too.

Verne and Rick, thanks for the pictures. Les, I am glad the prices are half the retail. I will wait to see how much they go for after Christmas.

I will wait until Ray starts flooding eBay with them and then create a nice little work train. Hoping the price within six months sits at 15 - 20 per car.

I saw a couple of posts over on the conspirocy that at lest two people had received some of the cars already.

Larry, all cars are packed two to a box.
