The orange barrels are out now in MI and work started just this week on a summer long replacement of several bridges along the 15-20 mile stretch of state highway, Michigan 50, between Charlotte and M-43 here in Eaton County. M-50 crosses the back of the lot of the house across the street from me. We did our first venture through the Detour maze today, found our own more logical route coming home. No front yard digging here like Phil has.

Bill, Yes they will reseed the part that they have torn up. It won't be Bermuda as it will not grow here from seed. Most likly will be some form of fescue. Yes, it's amazing how fast those dandilions will take over. But then I haven't done anything to the yard as I knew this all was coming.
Wes, Thanks, it is something different build isn't it. Will try to keep your interest up with more pics.
Let's see, it was warm and dry most of the winter and no work done and now they have lost evey day after tuesday to rain. Think they will finish by mid summer as planned?

some more pictures. All these are of the intersection on my corner.
here we are looking north, I didn't get any pics last weekend when they dug out this portion and laid the recycled crushed concrete. I'm standing where my drive used to be. They are extending the gravel northward to the next interchange. They will tear out that one after they finish mine. This one will be the detour route.
here I turned around and we are looking south. the gravel ends just past the grader.
here they are digging out the side street so that it can be graded to the new grade to meet the street.
walked around to my back gate for these pics.
this plastic mesh stabilizes the interface according to the supervising engineer.
more recycled crushed concrete
They are rained out again today. The poor people in the duplexes across the street will be walking to home for a few more days than planned. They park west on the side street.
More as it happens...

Wow, almost a month gone by since last post, Not much done visually.
Made a trip down street on the 11th. Here are pics of the portion that's been curbed and the gravel base spread out.
There is a short section that's not paved that continues off pic to the north.
Just south of the tracks. This intersection and side street is next to be torn out after my corner is done.
end of curbing at the next intersection south of me
these two pics I caught them grading
these next 4 pictures are from today 5-16-13
compare this pic with the last pic of my 4-26 post just above.
looking south
looking north
zoomed in on the paving being done just north of the tracks, see first pic of this post. All of those dump trucks have asphalt in them

Progress has been made on the street. So, ready for another town tour? I'll stick 6 pics in this post and the rest in the next.
looking east at the west end of the new section
north end intersection still looking east.
around the corner and south bound, all of the street work north of the RRtracks have been topped off awaiting striping
new RRX signals installed and working
southbound detoured over just south of the RR
This is the last intersection to be done. Street will be dropped about 3'. They are going back west 3 blocks. This will be widen, curbed, storm drains added and sidewalked
Thought this would be a natural break point continue in next post...

Well, as I mentioned the other day the street is finished and as Karl said that he would like to see the finished product here are the pics:
so, we start at the north end looking south and go south
the cones are here because they are not finished with the rebuild of Central street
and here is a look down Central need to lay the last layer of asphalt
and continuing southward
and finally here is the only picture of the street that I have of the original street. we are looking SSE from my driveway
big change

That is quite the transformation Phil. I bet its nice not to have the dust and noise there anymore. It doesn't look like much traffic there now, but how is the traffic flow with the widened street? And how is the rain mitigation now? Much improved I would suspect and I see the rolls of mesh in front of the storm drains to keep out large debris for now. Comparing the two photos with the fence it appears they moved all the utilities to your side of the street on taller poles. And now both sides of the street have sidewalks. Thanks for the photo tour again Phil.

Bill, Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the rain runoff is very much improved. Even with the plugs in the drain openings there wasn't any standing water in the 1 1/4" rain we had last sunday.
Yeah, they did move the utilities over to my side, wasn't expecting that when they mentioned that they would be moved.
The "sidewalk" on the east side is actually a 10' wide designated bike path. If I wanted to I can ride from here all the way to the south east corner of Wichita down along the Arkansas River all on the bike path. Something in the range of 15-20 miles one way.
Thanks again for stopping by.
