  • Håkan, First, the round house look great. 2nd, The curve leads from the turntable to the stalls is very prototypical. Usually because the turntable got lengthened or just moved.
    Keep up the excellence,

    • Thanks Bob, always good to have a second opinion. Much appreciated. I’ll go for the original placement.

      • There has always been a longing to build a Fine scale miniatures Watertower but I haven't found one to a descent price so in the meantime I build its plastic cousin instead. An old AHM kit I think it was made by Pola in Germany originally. It was a fun build and will get some additional details and weathering (saw improvements that could be made from the photos).
I thought to make a new shingled roof but I tried to make the old plastic roof look like its FSM counterpart. It was somewhat successful I think.

        • Håkan,

Excellent job on the water tower. Can't have thirsty locomotives.

I agree with Bob regarding the roundhouse. Looks like you've settled on that option anyway.

          • Håkan, if you hadn't told us that was the Pola Kit I don't think that most would know it. The FSM has a taller tank but the masons who laid the bricks were in a hurry or something.
This one fits your RR better imho.

            • Hakan,

It's only two fingers closer to the wall, that's not too bad. How much closer to the rail is it? Do you have clearance?
I have a picture of a building on the CNERy in a nearby town that was pretty close to the track.
It had it's own special clearance and speed warning in the railroads manual.

(Just realized I'm a little late with this, oh well) Water tower looks fantastic! Beautiful paint job!

In the picture below, the right side of the brick building butts right up against the tracks.(behind the small tree)

              • Thanks Bob, Mike and Scott! Not to late on the Roundhouse as I haven’t glued it down yet

Scott there is enough track clearance for the Roundhouse placed further away from the turntable. I am now toying with some ideas hiding the corner closest to the background using trees and greenery. I’ll test this weekend with a mockup.

                • Hi Guys
I took a break from the Roundhouse and built a passenger car instead. I bought some time ago on Shapeways a very neat Harlan & Hollingsworth coach kit which I have assembled and made a interior for. It was very nice to build and the roof and body fitted together very well. The only problem I had was that the platforms at the ends slighty warped upwards after I had cleaned the parts. I had to break it apart and reglue the platforms. Here are some photos (not the best I'l post better ones when my camera battery is charged).

                    • Looks good. Do you think the cleaning process caused the warping or is it inherent in the print material and thickness?

                      • Håkan,

That's a beautiful model, very well done. I like the simple lines and straw yellow color. Quite a contrast to other passenger cars you've built.

                        • Håkan, Excellent job on the Varnish. A change is better than a vacation. At least you get something done with a change.

Beautiful car! Nice job. Love the color and the lettering! At work sometimes I have to weight and heat parts that warp.

                            • Thanks George, Bill, Mike, Bob and Scott for the kind words!

"Looks good. Do you think the cleaaning process caused the warping or is it inherent in the print material and thickness?"
Bill I’m not sure but I think the cleaning did it. I cleaned it in denatured alcohol and possibly it dries out the material somewhat. Which is what one wants to be able to glue and paint the material.

"At work sometimes I have to weight and heat parts that warp."
Scott I have tried that and sometimes it works by just bending it. This material is quite stiff and brittle so I managed to break it. But it was easy to glue together again but this time in the correct position

Finally I have taken some new photos on the coach.
They didn’t come out as good as I wanted. I need to work on the camera and lights. Nevertheless here they are
