    Now that your boat has a name, she has a personality.

    She is a tight, trim little vessel. I am looking forward to your rigging. It can be challenging, but also very rewarding.

    A how-to & reference book on ship's hardware & rigging that I have found to be very helpful is named,

    "Jackstay"

    by George F. Campbell, M.R.I.N.A.

    Printed by Model Shipways Co. Inc

    This book is written by a ship modeler for aspiring modelers and is replete with diagrams and drawings.

    I have seen copies for sale on the internet.

        There has been little progress on the Spray. I found some small wooden blocks (3 and 4mm) in UK which arrived yesterday. They look very nice and I hope they will come out as nice as Gregs.



        This is very off topic

        I got sidetracked these couple of weeks when testing my new 3D printer and printed a small naval ship in 1/900 scale. It came out so well I decided to make a small sea diorama. Here it is nearly painted. Compare the size to my thumb.



        That was very off topic. Next time will be trains again.

                That ship is incredible. I think you have been flirting with another hobby.

                Have you given any thoughts to rigging and sails?

                I happened upon a couple of very small sailing ships at a museum near me. these were about 2 1/2" long. I wonder if the guy who built them can still see?

                      Greg R those ships are beautiful. At 2 1/2" they seem to be 1/600 or 1/700 scale.

                      Too many hobbies . I got a bit carried away building on the Spray schooner model. I found on Thingiverse a 3D model of the ship and thought I try to print it as small as possible without loosing much of the details. 1/900 seemed possible.

                      I have started on the rigging. The masts are made of brass wire and soldered together for strength. The ratlines will be printed and the standing and running rigging will be thin thread. No blocks though .

                      Thanks Bob, well it could but its a vessel from the 17th century so it would look a bit strange. Perhaps a ghost ship

                      Scott its a french vessel Le Soleil Royal from about 1670. Its a first rate ship of the line. It was a very large ship for the time:

                          Hi Guys!

                          The best laid plans of mice and men

                          I thought I'll keep the thread updated but a lot of household projects came in the way. Nevertheless here is a small update.

                          I have finally started on the final step of the layout and by re-arrangement of the track plan. Inspired by Gregs fantastic harbour scenes I decided to make this changes to get a larger harbour. The layout also landed a milestone with the last turnout made. I have using my trusty Fast track jigs made 10 turnouts and now I pretty fed up soldering . The main change I have made is to move the turntable and Roundhouse from the harbour area into the yard. Here is a photo of the new arrangement with the turntable and roundhouse represented by a bit of cardboard.



                          On the waterfront I have started rigging the schooner as you can see from the photos below. Arduous work to say the least.





                          On the car front I have refurbished a Labelle chapel car that I bought second hand. It was damaged with the railing at the ends twisted and also had some structural damage. I gave it a new paint job corresponding to the ones I have on other cars. I made it as a Tourist car instead of a chapel car. The idea is an old sleeping car remade to accompany budget travel for tourists and migrants.







                          Here is the combine I made before which has a similar color scheme as the Tourist car.



                          So things are not at a complete standstill on the model railroading front.

                            I've ordered some blocks, etc from https://model-expo.com They specialize in model ship building and fixtures. Some of the parts I bought actually came from Russia. You could check out that site to see what's available.

                            You have to have a really soft touch to rig small ships, it would be really easy to break a spar.

                              Excellent modeling, Hakan. The schooner is particularly beautiful and the coach is not far behind.

                              Harbor scenes are always full of character. I’m looking forward to seeing yours develop.
