I've collected a whole bunch of pictures from the FEBT (Friends of the East Broad Top) on FB. I also joined as a member last year. They send out a monthly pdf letter and they have a quarterly magazine with lots of information on the railroad.

I don't even have a layout yet and I'll be 71 in a couple of months. i figured I'd need at least two more lifetimes to build the layout I have in mind. I guess the journey is more important than the end station.

I've built a couple of these in standard gauge but think they're quite suitable for 3' gauge. I know I've seen other models converted to HOn3 so it's possible. Anyone else build these in HOn3?

      • I haven't built any but think I have a kit squirreled away in a drawer somewhere. Stick a pair of HOn3 trucks under it and I think you'd be set. Oh, HOn3 couplers too.

        • Hey Bernd,

Yep, pretty much all there is too it:

I removed a bit of the frame and the coupler pockets. I'll have to shim the coupler a bit as they're a little too high directly on the pad. An unmodified frame is in the foreground. I'll be needing some tube or something to fill the truck mounting holes to accept smaller screws.

Pretty easy so far, and looks good behind a Grandt Line boxcab

          • Also been fooling around with Bachmann cable car shell that I bought to steal the power truck out of:

I'm sure I've seen prototype photos of something similar, though I don't remember where. I think it looks kind of funny but I like it. I'll probably keep working on it.

Anyone else building anything these days?

            • I should have one of those cable car shells laying around somewhere. I just recently picked up two of those box cabs from Grant Line. Both unpowered. But along with those I also got two flea gear boxes minus the motors. No big deal there. I've got plenty of small motors I can use. Another project to add to the list.

              • The blue boxcab is my first bit of narrow gauge motive power, probably assembled in 2003 or 2004. It's been re-gauged to HOn30, then back to 3', painted a couple times, stuffed with lead and dropped a couple times. Still runs great if you don't mind it's constant screaming...

The screaming is a lovely trademark! I have one of those cable cars unpowered. It looks cool stripped down.

              • I now remember what I did with the power truck that came with the cable car. I made a track speeder and trailer from it. Here's six pictures of it. The red circles show how I attached it to the power truck. They are cut off pins. They are a tight fit and hold the shell on.

I like it Bernd! I intend to build something almost identical. One day...

              • Cody,

I got curious about those hopper cars. I thought I had some so off to search the filing cabinets. I did find a two-car kit but not like yours. They are a Taurus Products kit.

              • So many cool projects. I have three of the NWSL Fleas. One in HO, two in HOn3. I keep saying someday I'm going to build a critter or two. Someday...

                • Bruce, one day/someday is almost my mantra. Although, having most of my train stuff packed away in storage is forcing me to work on what I've got. (However, being within a 15 minute bike ride to a well stocked local shop has caused new things to begin to accumulate, especially as I pass it twice a day commuting to and from work)

                        • Good Morning All. I'm modeling Maine in HOn30, although my layout has gradually started to look more like the Pacific Northwest as I have become enamored with the Bragdon rock-casting system. I'll start a thread here soon and share some pics...I'm also planning a pretty significant expansion to begin any day now.

                          Glad to be here...John
