Im curious who out there has a hon3 module and what standard did you build it to?

In the recent discusion about what to do with built dioramas many people mentioned modules. I would love to build oporating hon3 modules with the option of connecting with someone else. I don't know any active hon3 guys in sydney but it would be awesome if there was a club.

We have a bit of everything here. I focus on the railroad logging era of Pennsylvania.

OK I've in narrow gauge for awhile and this is a loaded question but I am going to make everything I have more uniform so what brand couplers is everyone using as a whole. I hope I'm not opening a big can of worms. Tom

On anything that I've scratch built or refurbished, I've used Kadee #714's. A bit of a pain to assemble, but they seem to work fine.

Im with bruce. Im using kadee 714's but then again i dont have anything to run my stuff on so i can't provide an opinion on them more then i like the way they look :-)

Has anyone tried out the new peco flex track or turnouts in hon3 yet?

Bruce I'm modeling Colorado Narrow gauge. Kind of a mix of D&RGW and RGS. Room almost done, couple buildings started and some switches soldered up. Hope to get a track plan and some benchwork started. Does anyone use Cadrail????

I don't know if anyone in the HOn3/HOn30 forum uses Cadrail, but I'm sure in the larger forum there are members who use it. You might post questions about Cadrail in either the Crew Lounge or in the Layout Design sub-forum.

Howdy Folks,

I've been using Kadee 714s for most of my HOn3 and Micro-Trains 1025s for my HOn30 stuff, but I don't really like either. Both are prone to the slinky effect, which I can (mostly) deal with, but after building in larger scales I don't really like the giant 'draft' box that hangs down under the ends of my cars. Especially in HOn30 because I mount my couplers at a close to scale height instead of the usual N-scale standard height. I've experimented a bit with McHenry couplers which have a narrower, thinner profile on the mounting end but seem a little less reliable than the MT 1025s. They do eliminate the slinky effect though... I'm tempted to try out some Sergent Engineering couplers for my HOn3 stuff (and the little bit of standard gauge stuff I have, but I don't mind the Kadee #58s I've been using...), but they are probably a little big for my Maine styled stuff. I've heard they look great on Sn2 equipment. For the time being though I'll probably just continue to use up the bits I have laying around...

And because I know everyone likes pictures, here's a quick shot of a Grandt Line 25 ton diesel that I've had for a long, long time, and that has been rebuilt and regauged several times:



It was originally assembled over a Kato four wheel pocket mechanism, but then I didn't like the fact that the wheel base didn't match the side-frames so I rebuilt it to standard gauge using the original Grandt Line mechanism which for some reason I didn't like either so I recently regauged it to HOn30, just by pushing in the Grandt Line wheelsets and adjusting the pickups. Only the back axle is powered until I can salvage some extra axle gears from another HOn3 kit. I feel bad for this poor guy, always getting torn apart and rebuilt. I want to just finish him one day and just leave him in peace...

So how many of you have a model that you seem to always be working on but never seems to ever get any closer to completion?

Cody, that little Grandt-Line diesel looks good - even if you don't give it much of a rest.

Not quite in the same category as your diesel, but I have a combine that I have been scratch building for a year now. I pull it out, spend a few hours on it, then get distracted and there it sits for weeks (months) at a time. :erm:
