    Your favorite songs

    I'm starting this thread to both share with everyone my favorite music and to also experience music I'm not familiar with.

    Since we all have our favorites my hope is that everyone will participate.

    Please, lets have some fun.

    My plan is to post links to videos of my favorite songs and for all of you to do the same.

    Being a child of the 70s, my favorite music is classic rock, but I also enjoy classical, pop, country and more.

    My favorite band by far is The Who, followed by Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam.

    I'll start this thread with my all time favorite song.

    It's by The Who and it's their biggest hit, "Won't Get Fooled Again".

    Because of Pete's famous line in this song "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" I felt it was most appropriate to post this song on election day.

    That line isn't referring to the latest politician elected, as is the most common interpretation, but is instead Pete telling us that we the people are the boss and always have been the boss.

    I hope all of you went out today and voted and exercised your power to be the boss.

    I'm going to post two versions of this song.

    The first is of the master, Pete Townshend (a modern day Mozart), playing the song solo on acoustic guitar and a more traditional version of The Who playing the song live.

    Cool thread Rick !! Doin the first steps in music late 70's early 80's I'm kinda into punk music that time. Still like loud music but interest in other genres grew. Late 80's I discovered the so called psychobilly...one foot into punk one foot into 50's rockabilly. These days I like easy 50's music to go with my modeling..Johnny Cash is one of my alltimes favorite, funnthat his music always have some "train" rythm....

        Your second song is exactly what I was looking for.

        Never heard of the Milwaukee Wildmen, but I like the song you posted.

        I'll look up more of their songs for sure.

                  Hi Rick, what a great idea for a thread! My band's drummer is a huge Who-Maniac! Being a lead guitarist in a band, I have a unique perspective. I look at songs that will challenge me when figuring out the guitar solos. Some of my favourite guitarists are BBKing and Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Mark Knofler, George Harrison...so I will offer some of my favourite guitar "solo" songs!

                  The first one for tonight is by a Canadian band called A Foot in Cold Water. I first saw them on TV when I was about 14 years old and I drooled over the sensual guitar solo in the song. I had been playing guitar for only four years at the time (having started at age 10) but I listened patiently to the record, lifting the needle every few seconds so that I could figure out the next few notes. Guitarists starting out these days have it much easier with YouTube and Tabs off the internet!

                  Anyway, listen to the sensual guitar solo on the uniquely shaped Fender Stratocaster in the song...."Make Me Do Anything You Want" by "A Foot in Cold Water."

                    Never heard of Phantom, Rocker and Slick, and I liked it.

                    John, I liked that Blue Rodeo song the best.

                    I liked that Amanda Marshall Beautiful Goodbye a lot too.

                    And although I've never been a hugh Bruce fan, that's one of his better songs IMHO.

                      Mike, glad you like the thread and you get credit for inspiring me with your "For Our Forum "Guitarists" Out There" thread.

                      A Foot in Cold Water is yet another band I've never heard before.

                      Good stuff.

                      More please.

                      Just to give you an idea of how much of a Who fan I am, I have seen them about 40 times in concert.

                      Even got to see Keith Moon three times.

                      A big thrill for me was meeting John Entwistle at Club Bene in NJ where I saw his band The John Entwistle Band play.

                        Great photo Rick.

                        Like many of us baby boomers we grew up listening and seeing great bands. I've seen many , but will never forget watching "YES" and the Led Zepplin.

                        I like everything from classical to rap, but country and western is a turn off :yuck:

                        I made a short list on my web site, of songs to be played at my funeral [:-angel] , pumped thru 100,000 watt speakers [:-scared][:-headphones].

                          Ha, Mario, the sporting side of you that I'm aware of, was lawn bowls, so getting cranked up to a bit of "we will rock you" puts some unusual images in my head

                            Ah this is a very cool topic Rick. That last picture is awesome. When was it taken?

                            as far as my music taste goes, ACDC has to be my all time favourite. Behind that come all the other hard rock bands like Metallica, Nirvana, etc etc.

                            My music liking is very wide spread though, and ill often listen to bands like Queen, Beatles and Bon Jovi. Too many to mention.

                            Below is a link to a song by Metallica and the San francisco Symphony Orchestra. To me this is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Definately in my top 5 of all time.

                              My listening habits are seasonal, and since the leaves are changing I am getting into minor chords and melancholy music. Listening to Mark Hollis, Stars of the Lid, Richard Skelton, and David Sylvian right now. Ask me again in about 3 months.
