  • John, I'm very glad you liked the video! The building will be sized when I lay it out on the cardboard tomorrow... it is quite small judging from the door height... I'd guess a footprint of about 8x8 cms ( a little over three inches square... we'll see!

    • What an appropriate name.

Mr. Hayden was my neighbor to my childhood home and he raised horses and did his own leather work, as many horse owners did.

His barn was also painted white.

      A very New England name.

      Neat little building.

      • There's an Olson's Wool, right? I can't remember if there's something for Frary. There also has to be something for Mr. Allen, no?

        • Well I just ordered the DVD, I must be losing my mind. Ive wanted this DVD for so long and yet I forgot to check on availability until yesterday. The YouTube preview looks great.

Ive done alot of structures over the years, and Ive achieved some nice looks on a few of them but... my biggest problem is that I forget to write down all the colors I use or in what order. Sometimes I just keep playing with colors until I get something I like and then usually I cant duplicate it again. But I believe you can never quit learning, and I am really anxious to learn from you. I think thats why this blog appeals to me so much, and Ive said this before, Troels is like the perfect storm. He is a model railroader, he models waterfronts and he has an artists eye for color and details. It all comes together to produce such a wonderful waterfront layout. So hopefully in about a week I will be learning new tips and techniques, this is going to be fun and isnt that what its all about!!? JD.

          • Can someone tell me how to access Vol.1, 2, and 3? I tried the search feature and it comes back with "No match found".

              Joe,

Go two pages back and read through the emails and you'll find the answer to your question.

              • Trolls, a very plausible story, vodka stached in the back room under the various rolls of material and the blinds pulled down with the sound of russian music wafting through the air after dark, ha ha one could go on and on with stories of this layout. Like the latest sketch, as you say very simple but most effective and the little things about it suggest its use without the signs, brilliant.

By the way trolls if I order one of your video's do you think it will make Malaysia?

                • Keith, I'm sure it will (sent a couple to Japan already ;-)

Arthur, the Olson's Wool was actually named for Christina Olson, Andrew Wyeth's favorite model... But Dave Frary has a furniture store on the same street as the Furlow and Hayden ones... Full Steam Ahead has just released a kit version of the Frary's Fine Furniture. I have a Sellios' sardines on the wharf... John Allen will absolutely get his place too... he provided my very first spark!

                  • Love the way the Nitpickers turned out. I will carry this idea on this on my future layout. I guess this may be a benginning on a new franchise thing, a Nitpickers Bar on every layout!

                      • Troels!

I spent a couple of hours to browse through the first volums and it was an amaizing ride. Knowing how fast and incredible the progress has been from the incredible start it is not only a treat, but also very entertaing tutoral of model railroading ever! I will following this thread with lot's of interest to see what the future brings!

Nitpicker's seems to have sparked a lot of imagination out there...as Kathy mentioned, I think we all can recommend some patrons who belong there!

How about breaking the lower stair boards to imply an overly weighty nitpicker had a 'break through' with perhaps the pending injury claim finally sending the joint over the edge to insolvency! The faint sound of friendly laughter emanating from Furlow's would also be a nice touch...as long as it fits with your already growing list of ambient sound.

                          • Oh, be nice to the bar-less nitpickers!

I have assembled the basics of the Hayden's from leftover pieces of clapboard I had lying... now there's none left!

John, the footprint became 8.4 x 10.6 cms...

I'll use Rusty Stumps windows for this one...

                              • Troels, Haydens is coming right along.

Will there be a front or just black Matt Board.

your window openings cut are good and square. how do you do that. Do you also cut matt board window openings the same way. Did you have to brace the clapboard from warping
