  • Sawmill building for my future On30 layout

    Hi all!

    I have started building a sawmill for my On30 layout. The sawmill dimensions are about 60cm x 25cm (23" x 10").

The following posts will show my progress as I build it.

I have started with the base.

Here are the supports that will be in the pond, the sawmill will be built on these:

      Here is the base, assembled:

Next came the colums supporting the first floor. I made a simple jig so the two sides are the same:

Then I made the roofing skeleton where the logs are dragged in the sawmill:

Then I tried on the parts (they are nt glued yet) just for checking how they fit:

Nice start on your saw mill david. I a wondering what size members you have here. They appear on the small side.

IS that a real slide ruler in picture 2 and 3 above. I AM impressed. I havn't seen one of those since my college days.

Next came the roofing in the middle of the sawmill.

I made a bunch of supports:

                Here they are assembled:

                Added some diagonal braces:

O scale figure just to check the proportions:

Yes, that is a slide ruler, from my university years, about 10 years ago.

What do you mean "what size members"? Cross section?

Next comes the other side of the roof.

Same method as before, creating the cross sections:

                    Assembled:

Made the flooring for half of the roof (something will go there):

                    And the roof elements:

Next mini-project in the sawmill project is the log deck frame:

With a log on to show off

I have added the mechanism to it:

                          With the log on:

It is a very well done project, David. I suppose you plan to add some texture and weather to the black metal.
