    Thanks Mark!

    Thanks Frederic!

    Now figure out how to weather them up good,

    on the On30 layout I used the walnut stain as well,

    then I brushed on BBQ bricket ash to dull and dirty them up,

              LAYING RAIL ON THE 1st DAY OF THE NEW YEAR!!![:-magnify]

              I'm using code 250 Nickel/Silver weathered rail from "Sunset Valley Railroad",

              setting the rail with 2- 3/8" ME spikes on each side of the rail,on every tie,

              "SwitchCrafters" has come up with a ingenious little device,( tool ), to set two spikes at once,on each tie,on one side of the rail,

              its a real gem!!!

              Also got a rail bending device to make the curved rails, it works great Too!!!

              2 spikes driven per tie on each side of the rail,

              the duel spiker tool,the tool is gauged to rest on a 3/8" wide tie,

              the rail bender tool, I got it scewwed down to my benchwork,

              Well everybody have a good day R&R modeling!!

              thanks for stopping by,

              Randy

                  Randy,

                  Great progress shots. The nail spiker and the rail bender look like neat little tools.

                  Enjoy your day .....

                    Looking good! How's that nail spiker work? Must be better than using a pair of needle-nose pliers.

                      Hey Ray;

                      That spiker is outstanding,effortless compared to pliers,

                      you lay a 3/8" spike onto each of the two groves provided, (There held in place by little magnets),

                      you slide the spiker up to the rail,

                      (stradling the 3/8" tie),

                      holding it at about a 15 degree angle,

                      you then tap the two bars on top to drive the spikes in,

                      it never fails!!!

                      THESE ARE AVAILABLE FROM "SWITCHCRAFTERS", for $65.00

                      Ya Ray;

                      I had noticed that the switches that Bruce at "SWITCHCRAFTERS" was building for me had this double spiking on the ties,so I asked him how he was doing that, and he said he created a spiking tool to do it,

                      and that he sold them for the guys who enjoy handlaying rail.

                      Well there you go Ray;

                      [:-spin]"and thats my story, and I'm sticking to it"[:-weepn]

                      thanks,

                      Randy

                          Well friends;

                          I got my 1st 1000 spikes nailed in,[:-magnify]

                          probably about a 1000 to go on this 1st half of the layout,theres 8 spikes per tie on this system,at least with the spiker tool your nailing in two at a time,

                          One of my side projects I've been building a railroad tie cribbing section to fit a spot down the road,

                          thanks for stopping by,

                          Randy

                            Randy you are making great progress. I wish they made a spiker like that for 1/4" scale, it definately would make things easier.

                            I like your tie retaining wall, it will look great stained and back filled whaen in place.

                              Ya Mark,

                              Somebody should ask "Bruce" at "SwichCrafters" if he could design a O scale spiker along the lines of his large scale spiker,it would probably be a single driver,but would greatly beat doing it with pliers,

                              At least you yourself,if your going to model a module at a time, you wouldn't have so many spikes to set at one time,

                              are you going the hand laid route on yor module?

                              Randy

                                I haven't decided yet, I already have all the track and switches I need for 1 or 2 modules. I would have to buy all the supplies and the budget is getting tight until we see what Unc Sam does to us. :erm:
