  • Quick and Dirty 4 wheel flat car

    Hi folks,

Whilst waiting for trestle bents for the Isaac's Creek Railroad to dry, I turned my attention to providing the first item of rolling stock for the line - a simple 4-wheel flat car.

      Tony,

Great little flat car. I like those 10 -14 ft. cars.

My kinda bash! I've done similar things in HOn30 with Fleischmann and Roco European four wheel cars. It's great fun.

                  FWIW

If you removed the goofy European brake rigging and added a strip to the bottom of the pedestals it would look more American.

                  Of course the couplers.........

Marty, you mean our European trains can never stop with their goofy brake rigging?

                    I agree on the couplers.

And I like the flat car, Tony.

                      Fredric,

quite the opposite; I bet they stop like a BMW M series!

Hi Tony, Fantastic idea for quick & cheap logging / mining stock. I agree about the couplers though, stick out like sore thumb.

Well, Marty, I thought you were pessimistic, now I wonder if you're not too optimistic...

I agree about the couplers, but ...

this is destined to be used on a 5-year old's layout in the UK. If/when he gets more stock, it'll most likely come with these couplers on it. As for the brakes making it appear un-American, I'm not too bothered to be honest. There are NG railways/railroads in coutries other than the US - Wales for example 8D

Silly me i thought it was for an American Layout, guess I was not paying attention!

                              That will be a neat layout for a 5 y.o. !

Way to go getting him/her hooked on Narrow Gauge at a young age!
