over the tracks towers?

Hi all. A long while back I kitbashed an old Pola signal tower that went out and over the tracks. MR is running a contest for kitbashed structures and I thought about reworking this tower and submitting it. However, i don't know much about the prototype and am wondering:

1) IS there a similar US prototype?

2) Where could I find pictures of the inside?

One I know of was compass south of Troy, NY Union Station. I believe it was owned by the Troy Union Railroad. I've never seen a side view, but engineer's eye view shows a cabin with a hip roof on a steel structure spanning two tracks.

To my knowledge those are European type towers, and the U.S. towers didn't extend over the tracks, but were more like the pictures shown. Just small extensions off the side of the structure. Just my

Here's the one jbvb was talking about in downtown Troy, NY- Tower #2 in the mid 1950s. Not similar to the Pola kit, but did extend over the tracks. Photo courtesy Rensselaer Model Railroad Society.

Matt, it's nice to see you back here posting again!

I went to the MR website to check out the structure kitbash contest that you referred to.

It looks like it's sponsored by "Micro Mark" and you must use one of their "Scientific" kits as a starting point.

So I don't think your Pola signal tower would qualify for this contest. :erm:

There is another tower over two tracks, main lines on George Sellios, layout... That one is very cool, just can't seem to find the photo of it'...

That's a different angle of view, Lou, but I'm pretty sure that is it. Not sure I remember the large multistory brick attachment at the near end, seems the one I recall was a bit more balanced looking to the eye. The view I recall was straight on looking down the track.

Then there is this second one. But I don't know if these were just crossovers, or switch towers.
