  • I am basing the mill on the one Marty Jones built. Mine will have to be compressed some due to a tight fit. The watertank will be part of the mill providing water to the mill and a Porter that will handle switching there. Right now it's just a chunk of styrofoam.

            • Finished the dead rolls today.

Here's a photo of the two sections together.

Next will be the cutoff saw.

              • Roland,

Always a pleasure to see your work. I am glad you are back. Also happy that Mario, our resident librarian, is cataloguing your work for easy reference!

                • Roland the gear work on the live rollers is very well done. Are they NWSL castings?

The whole unit is a pleasure to see.

                  • Arthur, Tom, Thanks for the comments. The castings are all from Serria West. You supply all the wood and wires.

Arthur, I was very honored that Mario included me on his website.

                    • When you have it all finished, I need about 50,000 board feet of lumber cut for my new pier. Are your prices reasonable?

                      • No problem John but you will be probably be finished with your layout before I finih the sawmill.

                        • Your usual nice work, Roland. While I'm generally painting my wood a rather fresh gray, I like your choice of warmer colors (seems to fit what I remember of pictures I've seen of sawmills interiors too).

                          • Thanks Frederic. I have been using Minwax Golden Oak stain for the sawmill. I guess it is an oil based stain because my usual Elmers glue doesn't hold very well. I have had to switch to super glue gel for this project.

                            • Hi. Had a little time this morning so I was able to finish the cutoff saw. The metal finish is blacken-it per SW instructions. The belt is cut from a paper bag with a little chalk added.

I decided to build a frame, like I saw on another site, rather have the saw attached to the roof beams, in case I want to make the roof removable.

                              • Roland....love the mill equipment being built. I built a similar mill from the old CHB parts and made the mistake of hanging the cutoff saw from the roof rafters! I like your solution a lot better.
