Dan, thanks a lot for the pictures of the dock, it was exactly that one I remembered.
Ok, since track plan is almost final I have just two more questions:
Bench work height? First I went with the same Malcolm used on the SJC, 46", it seemed to high so I came down to 43", still find it a bit high, I was looking to pictures of the FS&M and Dick Elwells Hoosac Valley Lines and both seemed at a lower height. Any considerations I should follow?
Turnout control, manual or automatic?
Thanks once again for your help. I already built the bench work for the yard area (I can still lower it) and as soon as I have the name figured out I'll start a new thread.
I am 70 inches tall, and the rail height on my layout is between 45 and 48 inches. I am very happy with that height. It is easy to work on and under the layout, but ideally it could be just a little higher, maybe 48 to 51 inches. I would still be able to reach over it with plenty of arm clearance, and the view of the trains would be a little better.
I have monitored this thread following all the changes. whew!
I'm glad your about finished with the trackplan!
Looks like a great plan. Much success!

You will either be sitting or standing or crawling. How's the back, feet, knees, children in the house, animals? If children are viewing someone has to hold them. IMHO, There is no perfect height...
Paul Templar could flat out build a layout at warp speed. Nice to see you mentioning him! His influence carries on.
I'm 70" inches tall too, or I was until I started shrinking but MY lowest track is 52". It's great for viewing and operating the railroad but if I have to work on anything past 2' from the edge I have to use a foot stool.
Hey Nelson, I'm a shade taller but spend half my time in a wheelchair. I set my height at 44" for benchtop and it is easy to stand and reach back 30" or watch trains from my chair. Also that height is good for working underneth.
